Container House Sealing Materials

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

The commonly used sealing materials for container houses are mainly rubber sealing strips, with core materials including ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), silicone rubber, and PVC rubber-plastic composite materials. They can be classified into two types based on function: weather-resistant sealing strips and airtight sealing strips.

I. Types and Characteristics of Core Sealing Materials

  1. EPDM Sealing Strips

    • Characteristics: Excellent resistance to aging, ultraviolet rays, and weathering. They can be used for a long time in environments ranging from -45℃ to +80℃. They have a high elastic recovery rate, automatically rebound after compression, and have stable sealing performance.
    • Application Scenarios: Sealing the door frames of ordinary cargo containers and the corners of rear doors, which are prone to leakage. They can effectively block rainwater, dust, and wind noise.
    • Advantages: A service life of more than 5 years, eliminating the need for frequent replacement and resulting in low overall costs.
  2. Silicone Rubber Sealing Strips

    • Characteristics: High-temperature resistance (up to over 200℃), low-temperature resistance (-70℃), and chemical corrosion resistance. They have a low surface hardness and good flexibility.
    • Application Scenarios: Insulated containers or containers sensitive to temperature, which also need to meet fire and smoke prevention requirements.
    • Advantages: Pass the ozone resistance test (50pphm*40℃*72 hours), suitable for extreme weather conditions.
  3. PVC Rubber-Plastic Composite Sealing Strips

    • Characteristics: Low cost and good processing performance, but their weather resistance is weaker than that of rubber, and they are prone to aging and hardening.
    • Application Scenarios: Temporary container houses or cost-sensitive scenarios, requiring regular inspection and replacement.
    • Limitations: Prone to cracking when exposed to ultraviolet rays or high temperatures for a long time, with a sealing life usually not exceeding 3 years.

II. Functional Classification of Sealing Strips

  1. Weather-Resistant Sealing Strips

    • Used in ordinary cargo containers, mainly to block rainwater, dust, and wind noise. The materials are mainly EPDM or PVC, and the cross-sectional shapes include "J"-shaped, "C"-shaped, and T-shaped, adapting to different door frame structures.
  2. Airtight Sealing Strips

    • Used in insulated containers, requiring low thermal conductivity and high elasticity. The materials are mainly silicone rubber or foamed EPDM. They reduce air penetration through equal-pressure sealing design, improving energy efficiency.

III. Key Performance Indicators

  • Temperature Resistance Range: EPDM and silicone rubber can cover -45℃ to +140℃, while PVC is only suitable for -20℃ to +80℃.
  • Aging Resistance: After 168 hours of artificial accelerated aging test (ASTM G154 standard), EPDM retains a tensile strength retention rate of ≥80%.
  • Compression Set: High-quality EPDM sealing strips have a deformation rate of ≤30% under 70℃ and 22-hour compression at 50%, ensuring long-term sealing performance.
