Container House and Round House
Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026
Container houses and round houses are two distinct architectural styles. Container houses are modern industrial products, while round houses are traditional Hakka residences. They differ significantly in structure, function, and cultural connotations.

Structure and Construction Methods
- Container House: Based on standard shipping containers, they undergo secondary design and system integration through welding or bolt connections. For example, Baotou Camp Container House Company addresses floor stiffness issues by adding C-shaped steel purlins between the bottom beams to distribute loads. They extend the lifespan of steel by shot blasting for rust removal and applying protective paint on container surfaces. Additionally, they use bridge-cutoff lining structures filled with rigid polyurethane foam to reduce heat exchange and enhance thermal insulation.
- Round House: Constructed primarily from earth, wood, and stone using ramming techniques. For instance, the Dihuaju Round House features walls made of "three-in-one earth" (a mixture of lime, clay, and sand), with some column bases made of granite drum-style stones. The hard-mountain-style gable walls are adorned with granite carved window flowers, providing a stable overall structure with wind and earthquake resistance.
Functions and Uses
- Container House: Primarily used for temporary accommodation, offices, and field operations, they offer strong mobility, rapid deployment, and reusable assembly and disassembly. For example, Yiqi residential container houses are suitable for construction sites and field operations, while Shanghai container houses can serve as temporary site housing, dormitories, and office buildings.
- Round House: A traditional Hakka residence for clan living, it serves both residential and defensive purposes. For example, the "Weilong Hall" located on the central axis of the Dihuaju Round House is a place for ancestor worship. The upper, middle, and lower halls, connected by surrounding corridors, form a spacious and bright living space. The wing rooms and ancillary buildings on both sides of the main hall meet the living needs of family members.
Cultural Connotations
- Container House: Embodies modern industrial and green development concepts, combining modular design and eco-friendly material applications to achieve industrialization and sustainable development in construction.
- Round House: Carries Hakka culture and historical memories, with its layout, decoration, and functions reflecting the Hakka people's values of emphasizing education, culture, unity, and mutual assistance. For example, the Dihuaju Round House features an elliptical central axis symmetric layout, creating a pastoral living environment. The intricately carved wooden screens in the middle and lower halls and side halls are exquisitely crafted, highly decorative, and elegantly colored, showcasing the characteristics of Hakka folk carving craftsmanship.
