Container House Renovation Methods

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

Container house renovation requires a combination of spatial planning, functional design, and structural safety considerations, achieving livability through modular combinations, optimization of lighting and insulation, and personalized decoration.

1. Spatial Planning and Functional Design

Container renovation should select the assembly method based on the area: For small units (e.g., 15-30㎡), a single-container design can be adopted, enhancing space flexibility with foldable furniture (e.g., sofa beds, folding tables). For larger units (e.g., over 100㎡), 2-3 containers can be assembled or stacked in a staggered manner to divide functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For example, connecting two containers can create a flat layout with an integrated living-dining area and two bedrooms, while a staggered design can leave a leisure courtyard or corridor on the ground floor to improve ventilation and lighting.

2. Lighting and Insulation Optimization

The metallic material of containers can lead to dim interiors, necessitating the introduction of natural light through large floor-to-ceiling windows, roof skylights, or glass partitions, while reducing summer sun exposure with roof eaves or terrace sunshades. For insulation, interior insulation layers (e.g., polystyrene boards, rock wool boards) should be added to walls and roofs, and triple-glazed windows should be selected for better heat insulation than brick walls. For example, in one case, solar panels were installed on the container roof, solving electricity issues while improving ventilation through a lifting rod design.

3. Structural Safety and Plumbing and Electrical Renovation

Before renovation, the load-bearing structure of the container should be inspected to ensure firm welding points and avoid strength reduction due to cutting doors and windows. Plumbing and electrical lines should be planned in advance, protected with waterproof sleeves, and inspection ports should be reserved. For example, in one case, the side of the container was extended using an electric hydraulic system to form a deck terrace, requiring reinforcement of the connection between the hydraulic rod and the container body to prevent deformation.

4. Personalized Decoration and Detail Handling

Interior decoration can incorporate minimalist or rustic styles, improving space utilization with custom cabinets and hidden storage. For example, the kitchen can adopt a linear layout with double-door cabinets installed above and below; the bedroom bed can be designed as foldable for use as a sofa during the day. The exterior can be painted with eco-friendly coatings, and terraces or stairs can be added to enrich the sense of hierarchy. In one case, the exterior of the container was painted black, contrasting sharply with the rustic interior.
