Container House Renovation Guide

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

When renovating a container house, it is essential to focus on key aspects such as layout and spatial arrangement, lighting and insulation, energy supply, appearance and personalized design, as well as procedures and safety. Details are as follows:

I. Layout and Spatial Arrangement
The renovation of a container house should select a joining method based on specific needs. For example, two to three containers can be joined or stacked in an offset manner to create functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. If a single-story layout is desired, two containers can be connected to form a space of approximately 100 square meters that includes an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub. For those who prefer a sense of hierarchy, an offset design with upper and lower levels can be adopted, leaving a leisure courtyard or passageway area on the ground floor to improve ventilation and lighting. For small units (e.g., 15 square meters), it is recommended to use multi-functional furniture such as folding beds, folding tables, and integrated cabinets to enhance space flexibility.

II. Lighting and Insulation
For lighting, large floor-to-ceiling windows, roof skylights, or glass partitions can be installed to make the interior bright and transparent, blending with nature. For insulation, internal insulation layers should be added to the walls and roof, and triple-glazed windows should be selected to achieve warmth in winter and coolness in summer, with better heat insulation than brick walls. Additionally, roof eaves or balcony sunshades can prevent intense sun exposure in summer while enriching the facade.

III. Energy Supply
To address heating and power supply issues, a combined solution of "new photovoltaic thermal panels + underfloor heating system" can be adopted. The new photovoltaic thermal panels can generate both electricity and heat simultaneously, while the underfloor heating system enhances comfort, significantly reducing indoor temperature fluctuations, electricity consumption, and carbon emissions by nearly two times, thereby significantly improving environmental performance.

IV. Appearance and Personalized Design
The appearance of a container house can be freely painted and supports personalized design, such as street-style pop-up stores, pastoral pet houses, or two-story villas. During renovation, it is necessary to consider site conditions, plan circulation relationships, and integrate new and existing buildings to ensure complete functionality, convenience, and aesthetic appeal.

V. Procedures and Safety
Before renovation, it is necessary to consult the local planning and construction bureau to understand information such as the available range of homestead land, allowable building height along streets, the location of road control red lines, and the locations of water and power supplies. At the same time, relevant approval procedures must be completed to ensure legality and compliance. Additionally, container houses are often located in remote areas with scattered residences, so enhanced safety precautions are required.
