Rat Prevention Measures for Container Houses
Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026
Rat prevention in container houses requires a comprehensive approach involving physical barriers, environmental management, and professional control measures:

I. Physical Barrier Measures
- Install Rat Guards: Preferably choose PP plastic or wooden materials. PP material is waterproof and moisture-resistant, suitable for humid environments; wooden versions should have smooth, burr-free surfaces. The guard thickness should be ≥1 cm, with a height of 10-15 cm, capable of withstanding pressure over 30 kg per square centimeter to prevent rat climbing or biting through. Install using snap-on or adhesive methods in areas with frequent rat activity, such as corners and under cabinets, with cardboard placed at the bottom for easy cleaning.
- Seal House Gaps: Focus on inspecting door gaps, pipe openings, and ventilation openings, using steel wool, expanding foam, or metal mesh for sealing. For example, drainage pipes in container houses can be fitted with rat-proof screens with a mesh diameter ≤0.6 cm to prevent rat entry.
- Optimize House Structure: Choose durable container materials, such as corrosion-resistant galvanized steel sheets, to reduce the risk of rat gnawing. Ensure the house is well-sealed to avoid leaving gaps or holes where rats can hide.
II. Environmental Management Measures
- Maintain Cleanliness: Regularly clean up debris around the house to avoid exposing food scraps. For example, garbage should be stored in sealed containers and removed promptly, and food storage areas should be kept off the ground and covered tightly.
- Reduce Rat Habitats: Clear away weeds and accumulations around container houses, keeping the ground dry and clean. If the house is located in areas with a high rat population, such as urban villages, collaborate with the community to conduct environmental clean-ups and eliminate sanitation dead spots.
III. Professional Control Measures
- Use Physical Rat Traps: For small-scale rat prevention, combine the use of sticky traps and rat cages. For example, place sticky traps in corners or along rat activity paths and check and replace them regularly.
- Regular Disinfection and Monitoring: Commission a professional disinfection company to conduct monthly pest control operations in and around the house, focusing on garbage collection points and sewers. If signs of rat activity are found, increase the frequency of disinfection for one week.
- Comprehensive Control Strategy: In cases of severe rat infestation, chemical control methods may be necessary, but ensure the use of environmentally friendly agents to avoid pollution. At the same time, strengthen public education to raise awareness of environmental hygiene and establish a community-wide prevention and control mechanism.
