Container House Net Weight Standard Table

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

There is no unified standard for the net weight of container houses, and their weights vary significantly depending on specifications, materials, configurations, and designs. The common ranges are as follows:

I. Weight Ranges by Specification
The empty weight of a 20-foot standard container house is 2.2 to 2.5 tons (ISO standard model), with the foldable model as low as 1.6 tons. After interior installation (including basic configurations such as floors, doors and windows, and electrical circuits), the total weight is 3.5 to 4 tons, with a self-weight per square meter of approximately 200 kg/㎡, and the lightweight model can be reduced to 150 to 180 kg/㎡. The empty weight of a 40-foot standard container house is 3.5 to 3.8 tons (standard model), with the high-cube model reaching 3.8 to 4 tons. After interior installation, the total weight is 4.5 to 5 tons, and the foldable model weighs 3.5 to 4.5 tons. Its self-weight per square meter is similar to that of the 20-foot model, but the total weight is higher due to the increased area.

II. Weight Differences by Material
The empty weight of a 20-foot steel container house is 2.2 to 3 tons, and the 40-foot model reaches 3.5 to 4 tons. The foldable steel frame is 20% to 30% heavier than that of aluminum alloy. The empty weight of a 20-foot aluminum alloy container house is 2.5 to 2.8 tons (with the main frame still made of steel), and the new composite material model (such as fiberglass-reinforced plastic) can be as low as 1.8 tons.

III. Weight Changes by Configuration
The total weight of a 20-foot model with basic configurations (including floors, plastic-steel doors and windows, electrical circuits, and lighting) is 3.5 to 4 tons, and the 40-foot model is 4.5 to 5 tons, with a self-weight per square meter of 180 to 220 kg/㎡. Additional configurations significantly increase the weight: each 50mm rock wool insulation layer adds approximately 20 kg/㎡, fireproof/anticorrosive coatings add 10 to 15 kg/㎡, bathroom facilities add approximately 200 kg, and a double-layer structure is 40% to 50% heavier than a single-layer one.

IV. Weight Characteristics of Special Types
Due to functional requirements (such as heavy equipment installation positions and extra-large span frames), the empty weight of non-standard customized models can reach 5 to 8 tons, and the self-weight per square meter of explosion-proof container houses can reach 400 kg/㎡. Ultra-lightweight designs use aviation aluminum alloys or modular foldable structures, with the empty body of a 20-foot model as low as 1.6 tons and a self-weight per square meter as low as 80 kg/㎡.

Notes: For the same specification, an increase in plate thickness by 0.2mm increases the empty weight by 0.1 to 0.2 tons; reinforced structural designs may increase the weight by 30% to 50%. The specific weight should be based on the manufacturer's technical parameters, with a data fluctuation range of usually ±0.3 to 1 ton.
