How to Modify a Container House

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

Modifying a container house requires combining functional needs with creative design to achieve a comfortable living experience through structural adjustments, space optimization, and personalized decoration. The core steps include basic modification, functional zoning, facility installation, and exterior beautification.

1. Basic Structural Modification

The original structure of the container needs to be adjusted according to the usage scenario. Adding doors and windows is a common operation, such as adding a door on the front facade to connect to a patio, improving lighting and ventilation; roof upgrades can involve installing lifting rods to enhance air permeability or laying solar panels to solve electricity issues. In terms of wall treatment, insulation layers (such as rock wool) and soundproofing materials need to be installed inside, while the exterior should be treated for rust prevention and coated with waterproof paint to ensure warmth in winter and coolness in summer. If more space is needed, multiple containers can be spliced together, and an open layout can be achieved through cutting and重组 (reorganization), for example, using two 18㎡ containers side by side to form separate zones for the living room and bedroom.

2. Functional Zoning Optimization

Small containers of 15-20㎡ need to efficiently utilize every inch of space.

  • Bedroom: Use a foldable custom bed that can be folded up as a sofa during the day and unfolded into a double bed at night; design built-in cabinets around the bed, using curved block combinations to increase storage capacity.
  • Kitchen: An L-shaped design saves space, with double-door cabinets installed above and below and open shelves to meet kitchenware storage needs; some cases reduce floor space by using suspended designs (such as wall-mounted toilets).
  • Bathroom: Use wooden walls to partition the space, lay blue gradient tiles for waterproofing and moisture resistance, and equip with a thermostatic showerhead and solar hot water system; rounded edges are used to enhance safety.
  • Public Area: The living room can integrate leisure, reading, and dining functions, with foldable tables and chairs and a background wall storage system to adjust the space ratio according to needs.

3. Facility and Safety Upgrades

The water and electricity system needs professional planning, with S-shaped drainage outlets and waterproof trays reserved to ensure smooth drainage in the bathroom; the circuit should adopt a hidden design to avoid exposed wires affecting aesthetics and safety. In terms of fire prevention measures, black heat-resistant materials are used for decoration around the stove, and firewood is stored in the cabinets for quick heating in winter. Structural safety needs to be enhanced by adding horizontal and vertical supports, especially when splicing multiple layers, with a focus on checking node connections.

4. Exterior and Style Beautification

The exterior facade can create a visual impact by painting with dark blue, black, or wood-colored paint, paired with natural wood door frames and highly transparent glass doors to enhance the sense of nature. The design of greening and leisure areas can enhance the living experience, such as setting up a round stone table, long stone benches, or a super large staircase beside the container, paired with metal fences and bright green decorative strips for safety. The interior decoration is mainly minimalist, with a white and gray base paired with natural wood furniture, dotted with green plants and artistic ornaments to create a warm atmosphere.
