Does Container House Have an Insulation Layer

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

Container houses can be equipped with insulation layers, which play a crucial role in enhancing their thermal insulation performance. The following provides a detailed introduction from three aspects: material selection for insulation layers, installation methods, and their effects.

Material Selection for Insulation Layers The insulation layer of a container house should be made of materials with low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation properties. Common materials include:

  1. Polystyrene Board: Made from polystyrene resin through a foaming process, it features a closed-cell structure that effectively blocks heat transfer. It is cost-effective and easy to install.
  2. Polyurethane Foam Board: Generated from the reaction between isocyanate and polyether polyol, it has a closed-cell rate of over 95% and a thermal conductivity as low as 0.022W/(m·K). Its thermal insulation performance is superior to that of polystyrene board, and it has strong adhesion, making it suitable for direct spraying on the inner walls of containers.
  3. Rock Wool Board: Made from basalt after high-temperature melting and fiberization, it has a thermal conductivity of approximately 0.036W/(m·K). It also offers fire resistance and sound absorption properties, making it particularly suitable for scenarios with high fire safety requirements. Additionally, the composite structure of container wall panels with insulation layers typically consists of an outer metal layer (such as color-coated steel sheets or galvanized sheets) and an inner insulation material (such as rock wool or polyurethane foam), ensuring both structural strength and thermal insulation efficiency.

Installation Methods for Insulation Layers Insulation layers can be installed in two main ways:

  1. Externally Hung Insulation Layer: The insulation material is fixed to the outer wall surface of the container, covered with a metal sheet or decorative layer. This method is simple to construct but requires attention to waterproofing to prevent rainwater infiltration from degrading thermal insulation performance.
  2. Internal Thermal Insulation Board: Insulation boards are directly installed on the inner walls of the container, such as through polyurethane spraying or rock wool board pasting. The internal insulation method does not occupy external space and can quickly improve indoor temperature stability, but it requires ensuring the flatness of the inner walls to meet installation requirements.

Effects of Insulation Layers Insulation layers can significantly improve the thermal environment of container houses. For example, with a 15-centimeter-thick rock wool insulation layer, the indoor temperature in winter can be maintained at around 19.6°C, basically meeting comfortable heating needs; in summer, it can effectively block external high temperatures and reduce air conditioning energy consumption. Additionally, insulation layers can reduce indoor temperature fluctuations and enhance living comfort. Currently, container houses with insulation layers have been widely applied in scenarios such as temporary housing on construction sites, logistics and transportation warehousing, and temporary office spaces, with their economic and practical benefits fully validated.
