Exterior Wall Design of Container House Homestay

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

There are multiple design options for the exterior walls of container house homestays, with common cases including combinations of RTboard panels with metal and weathering steel, as well as glass curtain wall designs. The following provides an in-depth explanation from three aspects: material characteristics, design effects, and application scenarios.

Combination Design of RTboard Panels, Metal, and Weathering Steel
This design enhances visual hierarchy through material contrast while preserving the industrial texture of the container. RTboard panels are typically lightweight composite panels with fire-resistant, moisture-proof, and corrosion-resistant properties. Their surfaces can be textured to simulate wood or stone effects, creating a contrast with the cold, hard texture of metal panels. Weathering steel (Corten Steel), as a key element, forms a rust-red patina on its surface through oxidation, providing natural protection and allowing long-term use without additional coating. The rust color changes over time, presenting a unique aesthetic. When combined, metal panels are often used to reinforce or decorate the main frame of the container, RTboard panels cover non-load-bearing walls, and weathering steel is used for local embellishments (such as window frames and decorative strips). This approach not only retains the original texture of the container (such as corrugated plate marks) but also enhances the building's refinement through material texture contrast. For example, a seaside homestay project used dark gray metal panels to wrap the main body of the container, embedded rust-red weathering steel decorative strips locally, and filled the central area of the wall with light wood-colored RTboard panels, creating a color transition of 'cold-warm-neutral' that harmonizes with the marine environment.

Application of Glass Curtain Walls
Glass curtain walls can significantly enhance the transparency and modernity of container homestays, especially suitable for scenarios requiring natural lighting or scenic views. Double-layer glass curtain walls achieve thermal insulation and sound insulation through their hollow structure. The outer layer of glass can use low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings to reduce ultraviolet penetration, while the inner layer can be chosen as transparent or frosted glass according to needs. For example, a mountainous homestay project transformed one end of the container into a full-height glass curtain wall, introducing mountain views and sunlight during the day and creating a floating effect with built-in lighting at night; the other end retained the original corrugated plate wall of the container, forming a spatial contrast of 'open-closed'. Additionally, the combination of glass curtain walls with metal frames can further enhance the industrial style, such as using black aluminum frames paired with transparent glass to create a color echo with the silver-gray metal of the container.

Practical Factors to Consider in Design Selection
Material selection should consider climatic conditions: weathering steel forms a patina faster in humid environments but should avoid prolonged exposure to salt spray (such as coastal projects requiring anti-corrosion treatment); glass curtain walls in hot regions need additional shading measures (such as electric blinds or coated glass). Furthermore, cost and construction difficulty are also crucial: the combination of RTboard panels and metal has moderate costs and a short construction period; glass curtain walls are more expensive and require professional installation teams, but can reduce lighting energy consumption in the long run.
