Raising Animals in Container Houses
Container houses can be used to raise animals, but they must meet specific conditions and comply with relevant regulations.

From a technical perspective, container houses have the potential to be transformed into animal-raising facilities. For example, Dengguang Village in Meishan Town, Nan'an City, Fujian Province, utilizes containers for intelligent pig farming. By laying conveyor belts, installing automatic spraying equipment, and implementing a manure treatment system, they have successfully addressed the odor and pollution issues associated with traditional pigsties. Additionally, the container-based sea bass farming base in Dongshan Farm, Dongxihu District, Wuhan City, employs water quality monitoring, physical filtration, and biochemical treatment devices to achieve circulating water fish farming, enhancing the quality of the fish meat. These cases demonstrate that with appropriate modifications, container houses can provide suitable living environments for animals.
However, not all container houses are suitable for raising animals. A case involving a family farm in Zhangxi Community, Nanjing, which raised rabbits in containers, sparked controversy. The farm failed to complete the necessary reporting procedures and had issues such as direct discharge of wastewater and improper manure treatment, ultimately leading to an order from law enforcement to clear the site. This indicates that raising animals in container houses must comply with relevant laws and regulations to ensure environmental safety and animal welfare.
Specifically, the following points should be noted:
- Legal compliance: Before raising animals, it is necessary to report to the local animal epidemic prevention station and obtain the relevant permits to ensure that the raising activities comply with regulations.
- Suitable environment: Container houses need to be appropriately modified, such as installing ventilation equipment and temperature control systems, to meet the physiological needs of the animals.
- Sanitation management: Establish effective manure and wastewater treatment systems to prevent environmental pollution.
- Animal welfare: Ensure that animals have sufficient space for movement, provide appropriate feed and drinking water, and safeguard their healthy growth.
