Container House Design Courtyard

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

When designing a courtyard for a container house, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as spatial planning, functional layout, style design, and natural integration.

Spatial Planning and Functional Layout

  • Combining and Expanding Functional Areas: By combining or staggering and stacking 2 - 3 containers, functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms can be expanded. For example, after connecting two containers, a flat layout with an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub can be formed, covering an area of about 100 square meters. Staggered design can create richer spatial levels, leaving a leisure courtyard or aisle area on the ground floor to improve ventilation and lighting.
  • Reasonable Planning of the Courtyard Area: If a staggered design is adopted, the ground-floor courtyard can serve as a leisure and entertainment space. Outdoor tables and chairs, parasols, and other facilities can be set up for family rest and friend gatherings. A small planting area can also be planned to grow flowers, plants, and vegetables, adding a natural touch.

Style Design

  • Industrial Style: Retain the unique corrugated metal appearance of the container and pair it with elements such as black steel and glass to showcase the ruggedness and modernity of the industrial style. Ancient wood can be used indoors to echo the black steel, creating a space that has both a sense of historical weight and modern simplicity.
  • Fresh and Simple Style: Treat the exterior facade of the container with paint and choose light and elegant colors such as white and light blue. Use furniture in a unified natural wood color and white household items indoors to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Set up a courtyard and a hammock at the entrance to increase a sense of leisure.
  • Colorful Style: Use containers in various colors for stacked placement. Through a bold combination of colors and materials, the building becomes a great leisure space. For example, the container house designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan uses a series of sliding doors to extend the living space outdoors, paired with vivid colors and a green environment, creating a fun space.

Natural Integration

  • Introducing Natural Landscapes: Combine the courtyard with the surrounding natural environment. For example, if it is close to tall coconut trees, they can be used as part of the indoor green landscape. Plant succulents, Veronica didyma, yellow chrysanthemums, etc. in the courtyard to beautify the environment and have symbolic meanings.
  • Setting Up Large Windows and Skylights: Design a large number of large windows in various parts of the container house to provide natural light indoors and facilitate viewing of the surrounding landscape. Open a skylight above the dining table to increase indoor lighting and ventilation, so that people sitting inside do not feel oppressed.
