Solution to Dampness in Container Houses
Dampness in container houses can be addressed through measures such as enhancing ventilation management, using dehumidifying materials and equipment, optimizing building structure and decoration protection, and regular maintenance.

Enhancing Ventilation Management
During damp weather, such as the rainy season or humid days, close windows and doors tightly to prevent outdoor moisture from seeping in, and only open them briefly at noon for ventilation. On sunny and dry days, keep windows open all day and use fans to accelerate air circulation and expel accumulated indoor moisture. Areas prone to water vapor, such as bathrooms and kitchens, should be equipped with exhaust fans. After showering, close the door and let it sit for 1 hour to allow water vapor to condense before wiping down walls and floors and opening windows for ventilation.
Using Dehumidifying Materials and Equipment
- Dehumidifiers: Use desiccants and activated carbon for moisture absorption and prevention. Supermarkets offer various desiccants specifically designed for moisture control, with the most common types being moisture-absorbing boxes and dehumidifying bags.
- Quicklime: Quicklime provides immediate moisture absorption with a low cost and effective results, but it is corrosive and should be kept out of reach of children.
- Bamboo Charcoal Bags: Bamboo charcoal has strong adsorption capabilities and can absorb excess moisture in the air, preventing mold growth. It is affordable and reusable, but multiple bags are needed for optimal effectiveness.
- Dehumidifiers (Machines): One of the most effective methods, dehumidifiers can be selected based on space size and humidity levels to quickly reduce air moisture.
- Air Conditioner Dehumidification: Many modern air conditioners have a dehumidification function. Turning on this function can reduce indoor moisture, but it takes longer (usually two to three hours) and may make the room feel cold.
Optimizing Building Structure and Decoration Protection
- Floor and Foundation Moisture Protection: During the decoration phase, implement basic moisture protection measures, such as applying waterproof membranes on the exterior of the foundation and using waterproof mortar for horizontal moisture barriers at the -0.06-meter level of the ground beam. Preferably, create an elevated floor; if not possible, ensure a tightly pressed moisture barrier during backfilling. For already decorated houses, lay moisture-proof mats on the floor or apply penetrating waterproof coatings.
- Wall and Roof Protection: Choose appropriate insulation materials, such as EPS boards and rock wool boards for exterior wall insulation, and closed-cell insulation methods for interior walls using materials like rock wool and expanded perlite boards.
