Construction Methods for Container House Columns

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

Container house columns typically use channel steel or professionally pressed columns, ensuring adequate thickness and structural stability. The specific construction methods are as follows:

Application of Channel Steel Columns

Channel steel is one of the core materials in the framework of container houses, primarily used for welding the main crossbeams around the top and bottom (similar to ring beams) and some column structures.

  • Specification Selection: Commonly, 5×10 channel steel is used. Its cross-sectional dimensions provide sufficient flexural capacity to meet the load requirements of container houses.
  • Welding Process: Columns and base channel steel must be fully welded to ensure the quality of the welds meets the requirements of the "Steel Structure Design Standard" (GB 50017—2017), avoiding defects such as incomplete fusion and porosity.
  • Structural Role: Channel steel columns and base crossbeams form a framework system that bears vertical loads and transfers them to the foundation while resisting horizontal wind loads and seismic forces.

Use of Professionally Pressed Columns

Container house columns must have a thickness of no less than 1mm and are typically pressed into specific cross-sectional shapes using professional equipment.

  • Material Characteristics: Pressed columns are formed with stiffeners or grooves through cold bending processes, significantly increasing the moment of inertia of the cross-section and enhancing flexural stiffness.
  • Market Supply: Due to the need for specialized molds and equipment for the pressing process, ordinary construction parties find it difficult to produce them independently and must purchase finished columns directly to ensure dimensional accuracy and mechanical performance standards are met.
  • Installation Points: Pressed columns are connected to the upper and lower crossbeams (channel steel) using bolts or welding. The connection areas require reinforcement, such as adding stiffening plates or using high-strength bolts, to avoid local stress concentrations.

Borrowing Construction Methods from Steel Structure Factory Buildings

Container houses and steel structure factory buildings share similarities in column design, and the following optimization measures can be referenced:

  • Cross-Sectional Forms: If the container house has multiple stories or a large span, H-section steel or C-section steel composite columns can be used, with angle steel connecting two C-section steels to enhance stability.
  • Support System: Adding inter-column supports or horizontal braces forms a spatial load-bearing system, improving overall lateral stiffness, especially suitable for multi-story container houses.
  • Corrosion Protection: The column surfaces must be sandblasted to remove rust and then coated with anti-rust paint. In coastal or high-humidity areas, a corrosion protection system of zinc-rich primer + epoxy mica intermediate paint + aliphatic polyurethane topcoat should be used to extend service life.
