Container House Bedroom Design

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The design of a container house bedroom requires comprehensive consideration of space utilization, functional layout, comfort, and aesthetics. Here are the specific design points:

1. Space Planning and Size Adaptation
The bedroom of a container house is restricted by its original dimensions (for example, a standard container has an interior height of about 2.4 meters and an expanded area of approximately 18 - 36 square meters). It is necessary to prioritize meeting basic functions. For instance, the container houses at the Nagoya Asian Games adopted a two-bedroom and one-living-room layout, accommodating three people per household. The bed size was 195cm×90cm, but the space between two beds was only enough for one person to pass sideways, making it cramped. It is recommended to use custom-made foldable beds. During the day, they can be folded up to serve as sofas, and at night, they can be unfolded into double beds, saving space and enhancing flexibility. If the area allows, you can refer to the Chilean Double-Wing Expansion Box project, which expands the indoor area to 36 square meters by unfolding the wing bodies on both sides and divides an independent bedroom area.

2. Storage and Functional Integration
The bedroom needs to meet both sleeping and storage needs. Vertical space can be utilized to design built-in cabinets, such as installing overhead cabinets on the top and drawers under the bed, or using arc-shaped block combination storage units to improve storage efficiency. For example, a 15-square-meter container bedroom was filled with cabinets beside the bed and on the top to meet the storage needs for clothes and miscellaneous items. Multi-functional furniture (such as foldable tables and movable side tables) can further optimize the flow of movement and avoid space blockage.

3. Comfort and Environmental Control
The container material (iron sheet + wood board) can easily lead to poor thermal insulation and noise problems, which need to be improved through materials and equipment. Using a fusion material of quartz, porcelain, and glass for the exterior wall can enhance thermal insulation. Laying fire-resistant and moisture-proof floors inside and pairing them with double-glazed windows can improve sound insulation. The air-conditioning layout should be reasonable to avoid uneven bedroom temperatures caused by installing it only in the living room. Small wall-mounted air conditioners or fans can be added. In addition, wooden decor (such as all-wooden suspended ceilings and floors throughout the house) can create a warm atmosphere and alleviate the cold feeling of the metal structure.

4. Lighting and Visual Design
Container bedrooms can easily appear depressing and need to be optimized through lighting and color design. Adding skylights or side windows can introduce natural light. For example, in one case, a skylight with a high middle and low sides was designed on the roof, taking into account both drainage and stargazing needs. Light colors should be the main choice (such as white and beige), with wooden borders for embellishment, visually enlarging the space. Using bright-colored decorations locally (such as green fences and blue carpets) can add vitality. If space allows, an extended patio or balcony can be set up to expand the activity area and improve ventilation.

5. Safety and Detail Handling
The bedroom of a container house needs to pay attention to structural safety and detail design. Metal stairs should be equipped with railings and anti-slip strips to avoid collisions. The electrical circuits and water pipes should be planned in advance to avoid damaging the walls during secondary construction later. For example, in the Chilean project, the positions of water and electricity were preset at the factory stage to reduce on-site modifications. Fire-resistant materials (such as black special wall materials) can be used in the areas around the stove to enhance safety.
