Installing Air Conditioners in Container Houses

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

Container houses can be equipped with air conditioners, but it is necessary to select the appropriate type and installation method based on the house structure and usage requirements. Here is a detailed analysis:

Air Conditioner Adaptability in Container Houses

Container houses are built on standard containers and transformed into independent spaces. Common sizes are 20-foot and 40-foot, with a sturdy structure and convenient transportation. Their internal spaces are usually planned as two-bedroom apartments or single rooms, equipped with toilets, bathrooms, and basic living facilities. However, the original design may not have reserved conditions for air conditioner installation. For example, although the athletes' dormitories at the Nagoya Asian Games were equipped with one air conditioner, the cooling effect in the bedroom area was limited due to spatial layout issues, requiring ventilation through opening doors to assist in cooling. This indicates that container houses can be installed with air conditioners, but it is necessary to optimize the installation location and quantity in combination with the spatial structure.

Air Conditioner Type Selection

  • Split-type air conditioners (wall-mounted/floor-standing): Suitable for small-area container houses, such as single rooms or living rooms in two-bedroom apartments. Wall-mounted units are flexible in installation and do not occupy floor space, making them suitable for houses that have already been decorated; floor-standing units have a larger cooling capacity but require reserved floor space. For example, a 3-horsepower wall-mounted unit can meet the space requirements of 30-40 square meters, and the installation conditions are simple, only requiring holes to be drilled in the wall to fix the bracket.
  • Ducted air conditioners: Suitable for scenarios with high aesthetic requirements, such as office or long-term residential container houses. Ducted air conditioners are hidden in the ceiling and do not occupy indoor space, but it is necessary to reserve pipes and installation positions during the decoration stage. If the container house has already been decorated, the cost of adding a ducted air conditioner later is relatively high.
  • Integrated air conditioners: For example, the Nikko DKC3/5KW integrated air conditioner is specially designed for container houses, integrating cooling and temperature control functions, with convenient installation and adaptability to narrow spaces. Such air conditioners usually have a relatively low price (for example, the DKC3/5KW is priced at 2600-2800 yuan per unit), making them suitable for projects with a limited budget.

Installation Precautions

  • Power configuration: Container houses need to reserve sufficient power capacity to avoid circuit overloads caused by air conditioner operation. For example, a 3-horsepower air conditioner has a power of about 2200W, and it is necessary to ensure that the circuit can support it.
  • Spatial layout: The outdoor unit of the air conditioner needs to be placed in a well-ventilated area to avoid the metal shell of the container obstructing heat dissipation. If space is limited, an integrated air conditioner or a miniaturized outdoor unit can be selected.
  • Sealing optimization: Container houses have strong airtightness, and it is necessary to regularly check the sealing of doors and windows to prevent cold air leakage from affecting the cooling effect.
