Container Finished Housing Exports
Container finished housing exports are showing rapid growth, becoming a new growth point in foreign trade.

Export Scale and Growth Rate: In the first half of 2026, China's total exports of prefabricated buildings reached $2.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 45%, with steel-structured modular housing being the main category. In the first four months, Shenzhen Port exported modular buildings worth 1.68 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.6%, covering more than 150 countries and regions; the national export value of integrated housing reached $2.324 billion, a year-on-year increase of 47.9%. Customs data shows that the export growth rate of modular housing is significant, becoming a new highlight of 'Made in China' going global.
Product Advantages and Technical Support: Container finished housing adopts a modular design, breaking down the entire building into independent modules. Precision assembly of steel structures, walls, pipelines, and bathrooms is completed in the factory, and then transported by container to the destination for on-site assembly. This model shortens the construction period by more than 60% compared to traditional construction. For example, the construction period of a retirement apartment project in the UK was halved, and the overall cycle of a hotel project in Papua New Guinea was compressed from 14-18 months to 7 months. Standardized factory production reduces steel waste to 3%-5% (compared to 8%-12% on traditional construction sites), light steel structures reduce foundation material consumption by 60%-70%, labor costs are reduced by about 50%, and the comprehensive cost is only one-third to one-half of that of local construction overseas.
Market Demand and Application Scenarios: Overseas market demand is concentrated in fields such as engineering camps, cultural tourism, and emergency response, with increasing attention to recyclability, cross-border compliance, and low-carbon attributes. Among orders from leading manufacturers, products with multiple reuse capabilities, cross-border qualifications, and low-carbon attributes account for more than 60%. For example, Yashun Light Steel produced double-wing expandable containers for a project in Chile, with each unit providing approximately 36 square meters of usable space after expansion, balancing transportation efficiency and actual usage needs; the popular 40-foot expandable container house in the US market has a total landed price of approximately $28,689, attracting low-income individuals, rural travel enthusiasts, and self-built housing investors.
Policy and Industrial Chain Collaboration: Customs improves customs clearance efficiency through policy promotion, paperless declaration, and priority berth arrangements. For example, Changshu Customs assisted enterprises in exporting to the tourism project in the Maldives, with import and export values increasing by 3296% from January to April. Enterprises extend application scenarios through technological innovation, such as CIMC Modular Data Center's business revenue increasing by more than five times year-on-year, and the world's first ultra-large prefabricated modular data center landing in Malaysia, shortening the construction period by nearly half.
