Usage of Portable Toilets at Construction Sites
The use of portable toilets at construction sites requires comprehensive consideration from multiple aspects, including structural configuration, type selection, sanitation mechanisms, safety standards, maintenance management, site selection, environmental adaptability, and the number of users.

Structural Configuration: Utilize galvanized steel pipe frames and fire-resistant panels. The foundation must be leveled and secured with anchors to prevent tipping. Internally, anti-slip floors, handrails, and lighting systems that meet safety illumination standards are equipped to ensure user safety.
Type Selection:
- Structurally, they are divided into single and composite units; in terms of mobility, they include hoisting and powered towing types.
- Based on sewage treatment methods, they are categorized as water-flush, waterless suction, recirculating water-flush, and dry-pack types. For short-term projects, dry-pack toilets are recommended (no need for water and electricity but with high consumable costs). For medium-term projects, biodegradable types are suitable (requiring regular addition of bacterial agents). For long-term construction sites, it is advisable to configure recirculating water-flush systems (dependent on continuous water and electricity supply).
Sanitation Mechanisms:
- The excreta treatment module achieves waterless treatment through biodegradation (microorganisms decompose solids) or chemical solidification (adding coagulants for gelation).
- Odor control employs a negative pressure exhaust system that directs odors into activated carbon filters.
- The disinfection module is equipped with automatic induction sprays that release food-grade disinfectants to cover contact surfaces.
Safety Standards:
- Structural stability is ensured through foundation fixation and internal anti-slip design.
- Operational standards require checking the toilet status after use (e.g., whether the degradation agent or packing bag is normal) and using touchless faucets and soap dispensers for handwashing.
Maintenance Management:
- Daily maintenance includes daily solid waste removal, consumable replenishment, and surface wiping.
- Weekly tasks involve cleaning the exhaust filters and checking pipeline sealing.
- Monthly checks include assessing overall structural stability and replacing aging components.
- Disinfection operations should be conducted during non-use periods, with operators wearing basic protective gear and residual concentrations meeting hygiene standards.
- Waste transportation uses sealed containers, with交接单 (handover forms) checked and time recorded during handover.
Site Selection and Environmental Adaptability:
- The site should be more than 15 meters away from the construction area, located downwind, and避开 (avoid) material storage areas and electrical equipment.
- In rainy regions, waterproof ramps and drainage channels should be installed, while high wind pressure areas require additional diagonal bracing.
- For winter use, insulation layers and antifreeze agents are necessary to prevent pipeline freezing.
Maximum Number of Users: Calculated based on building area, it is recommended that the ratio of users per toilet be lower than 1:20, with disinfection intervals not exceeding 6 hours and waste retention times shorter than 24 hours to control the incidence of hygiene-related incidents.
