Construction Site Portable Toilet
Construction site portable toilets are movable facilities designed to meet the toilet needs of workers at construction sites and other locations.

I. Basic Components Construction site portable toilets typically consist of core components such as fecal sewage storage tanks (or disposal units), floor slabs, sanitary ware, walls, washing equipment, water tanks, roofs, and moving devices. Among them, the fecal treatment system is crucial. Water-flush toilets require water tanks and sewage pipes, while non-water-flush toilets rely on sealed storage tanks or dry packing devices. Wall materials need to balance durability and portability, with common options including metal carved panels and bamboo-wood fiber panels. Moving devices are classified into lifting hooks, powered trailer chassis, or handling pallets based on their structural forms, ensuring the rapid relocation of the facilities.
II. Structural Classifications
- By structural form: They are divided into single-unit structures and composite structures. Single-unit structures are independent units suitable for small-scale construction sites. Composite structures are composed of multiple modules that can be flexibly expanded to increase the number of toilet stalls, such as the “4+1 stepped” design (4 toilet stalls + 1 open washroom), meeting the needs of different numbers of people through modular combinations.
- By moving method: They are classified as lifting-type, handling-type, and powered trailer-type. Lifting-type toilets rely on lifting equipment for relocation and are suitable for long-term fixed locations. Handling-type toilets feature lightweight designs and can be moved manually. Powered trailer-type toilets are equipped with engines or traction devices and can travel autonomously to remote areas.
- By sewage treatment method: They are divided into water-flush, non-water-flush suction, recirculating water-flush, and dry packing types. Water-flush toilets require a water connection and offer high cleanliness. Non-water-flush toilets use vacuum pumps to suck feces into storage tanks for regular removal. Recirculating water-flush toilets utilize biodegradation technology to purify sewage, enabling water reuse. Dry packing toilets use biodegradable plastic bags to collect feces, eliminating the need for sewage pipes and making them suitable for water-scarce environments.
III. Customized Applications Construction site portable toilets support customization according to needs. For example, a factory in Zhejiang, due to a significant gender imbalance among workers (more men than women), customized a layout with 1 male toilet and 7 toilet stalls and shortened the construction period to 4 days. High-end models can be equipped with titanium-magnesium alloy doors, anti-slip tiles, exhaust fans, and bathroom cabinets to enhance comfort. Simple models can be quickly set up as temporary toilet spaces by combining water storage tanks and pallets, offering low costs and easy disassembly.
