Comparison Between Container Houses and Mobile Houses

Admin 16 de septiembre de 2026

Container houses significantly outperform mobile houses in terms of structural strength, durability, migration convenience, and long-term cost-effectiveness, although they have higher initial costs; mobile houses have lower unit prices and are suitable for short-term, low-frequency use scenarios.

1. Structure and Materials
Container houses are primarily constructed from high-strength steel (such as Q235B weathering steel), with wall thicknesses of ≥2.0mm, and are fully welded for structural integrity. They can withstand wind forces of ≥10 and are resistant to natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons. Mobile houses, on the other hand, are assembled from lightweight steel frames and covered with ordinary galvanized steel sheets (with wall thicknesses of ≤1.2mm). They have a wind resistance of ≤8, a loose structure, and are prone to deformation and leakage due to strong winds or heavy snow.

2. Service Life and Maintenance Costs
Container houses are designed for a service life of 15-20 years, with 8-10 years of outdoor use in conventional environments and 3-5 years in coastal areas with high salt spray (which can be extended with high-quality anti-corrosion treatments). The maintenance cost for a 120-square-meter container house over five years is approximately 21,000 yuan. Mobile houses have a lifespan of only 3-5 years, with a 40% replacement rate for structural damage within five years. The maintenance cost for a 120-square-meter mobile house over five years can reach 87,000 yuan, requiring frequent replacement of rusted screws and repair of leaking seams.

3. Migration and Reusability
Container houses can be lifted and relocated as a whole, with items inside moving without damage, and can be reused more than 10 times. Migration costs are low, and efficiency is high. Mobile houses require disassembly of panels and replacement of damaged components for each relocation, with a migration loss rate of 25%. They are generally scrapped after 4-5 relocations, resulting in high long-term use costs.

4. Residential Comfort
Container houses have insulated walls, providing sound insulation close to that of a regular building, and remain warm in winter and cool in summer (with even better performance in high-end models after optimization). Ordinary models may have issues with being cold in winter and hot in summer. Mobile houses lack professional insulation and soundproofing designs, becoming stuffy in summer and noisy during rain, only meeting basic shelter needs.

5. Initial Cost and Long-Term Cost-Effectiveness
Container houses have unit prices that are 20%-30% higher (e.g., approximately 12,000-15,000 yuan for a 3m×6m model), but their overall costs over five years are lower, with an average annual cost per square meter that is 23% lower than that of mobile houses. Mobile houses have lower unit prices (e.g., approximately 6,000-8,000 yuan for a 3m×6m model), but their long-term maintenance and replacement costs are high, potentially exceeding the total cost of container houses over five years.

6. Suitable Scenarios
Container houses are suitable for medium- to long-term engineering temporary buildings, temporary warehousing, wild camping, cultural tourism homestays, and other scenarios requiring wind and earthquake resistance or repeated relocation. Mobile houses are only suitable for short-term temporary offices and dormitories on construction sites where cost sensitivity and short use cycles are concerns.
