Chuanmei Container House
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (Chuanmei) has made significant explorations in the field of container house design, mainly reflected in academic research, graduation projects, and exam questions creation.

At the academic research level, Chuanmei, in its “Intelligent Narrative: Land-Sea Link” academic camp, used containers as narrative carriers, endowed them with philosophical subjectivity, and proposed the innovative concept of “traffic nodes as narrative motifs”. By transforming Chongqing landmarks such as the Huangguan Grand Escalator and the light rail passing through buildings into playable cultural texts, and combining field research with film-game integration technology, it reinterpreted and reactivated the cultural symbol of Chongqing's “stick-stick army”. Although this research did not directly focus on container houses, it provided theoretical support for the design and application of containers as cultural carriers.
At the graduation project level, the Industrial Design program at Chuanmei saw the emergence of several works reflecting design innovation and cultural attributes among the outstanding graduation projects in 2021. For example, Wang Ran, a master's graduate from the Sculpture Department, in his work “Randa Encrypted Container”, took the container as the prototype and combined multiple technologies such as 3D printing, stainless steel, and AR to explore the interactive relationship between virtual and real spaces. Although this work did not directly present the form of a container house, it provided new ideas for the intelligent and artistic design of container houses through technological integration and conceptual innovation.
At the exam questions creation level, in the postgraduate entrance examination questions for Environmental Design at Chuanmei, it explicitly required the design of an artist's studio with containers as the theme. The question asked candidates to creatively combine three standard containers (with dimensions of 605824382896) to create a functional layout covering both artistic creation and living spaces, emphasizing the theme of “structural deconstruction”. This exam question directly pointed to the design practice of container houses, requiring candidates to achieve the integration of architecture and nature through form combination, material replacement (such as glass and acrylic panels), and environmental relationship design under limited conditions. The case presentations enriched the form and function of container houses through methods such as adding load-bearing columns at the bottom of high-rise stacked layers and adding corridors on the exterior.
In conclusion, Chuanmei has systematically explored the design possibilities of container houses through academic research, graduation projects, and exam questions creation, covering multiple dimensions such as cultural narrative, technological integration, and form innovation.
