Cat Mobile Toilet Tutorial

Admin 22 de septiembre de 2026

The following steps and precautions can be referred to for training a cat to use a mobile toilet:

I. Basic Training Steps

  1. Position Migration Move the original litter box 5 centimeters towards the toilet every day until it is flush against the edge of the toilet, which takes about 1-2 weeks in total. The moving speed should not exceed 10 centimeters per day; otherwise, the risk of the cat's stress response can be as high as 82%. Alternatively, you can first move the litter box next to the toilet in the bathroom to let the cat get used to defecating in the bathroom.

  2. Height Adaptation Use thick books or a special heightening stand to raise the litter box by 2-3 centimeters every day for 2-3 weeks. It needs to be kept stable to avoid causing fear due to shaking. You can also gradually increase the height by stacking cardboard boxes and books until it is level with the toilet, and move it closer to the toilet each time.

  3. Training Device Transition

    • Tool Selection: Purchase or make a training seat (with gradually enlarging holes in the middle, priced at about 30-50 US dollars). For homemade options, you can use aluminum cookware, cover it with 1 inch of cat litter, and then fix it on the toilet seat.
    • Cat Litter Adjustment: Initially, lay 3 centimeters of original-flavor cat litter. Reduce it by 1 centimeter every week while replacing it with a training tray with larger holes. When the hole diameter reaches 15 centimeters and the cat makes no mistakes for 7 consecutive days, remove the training device.
    • Details of Homemade Trays: Fix the tray with tape, fill it with 2.5-5.1 centimeters of flushable waste, and cut a hole with a diameter of 7.6-10.2 centimeters in the center. Enlarge the hole diameter and reduce the amount of cat litter every week.
  4. Independent Use 83% of cats will adapt to using the toilet directly within 3 days after the training device is removed, but it is recommended to keep an emergency litter box for more than 2 weeks to prevent accidents.

II. Alternative Methods

  1. Essential Balm Guidance Method: Remove the original litter box, apply essential balm at the original location, and guide the cat to place a small box of cat litter in the corner of the toilet.
  2. Bidet Training Method: First, place a single-layer bidet, gradually add an upper cover, cat litter, and water, and finally cut holes for transition.

III. Key Precautions

  1. Patience and Step-back Principle: The training takes about 6 weeks. If the cat resists a certain step, go back to the previous stage. For example, if the cat refuses to use the training device, extend the training in the litter box stage.
  2. Cleaning and Rewards: Prepare sufficient cleaning supplies during training and lay urine pads around the toilet to catch stains. Reward the cat promptly after it defecates correctly and correct it gently when it makes mistakes.
  3. Conditions for Terminating Training: If there is no progress for 8 weeks, the cat shows stress responses (such as excessive grooming, refusal to eat), or the cat is an elderly cat/a patient with arthritis, it is recommended to give up the training.

IV. Risk Avoidance The training device needs to be fixed firmly to prevent the cat from getting injured due to sliding; when reducing the amount of cat litter, do it gradually to prevent the cat from refusing to use it due to changes in foot feel; for male cats, pay extra attention to cleaning the sprayed stains.
