Building Houses with Containers

Admin 14 de septiembre de 2026

It is feasible to build houses with containers, and there are numerous advantages.

Construction Methods and Characteristics:

  • Modular construction is the core approach. The entire building is divided into independent housing modules. Most processes, including the main structure, plumbing and electrical lines, and interior decoration, are completed in the factory. These modules are then transported to the site and assembled like building blocks. For example, Zhongjian Steel Structure Jiangsu Co., Ltd. produced "block houses" for a North American order. These houses, consisting of four independent modules, were shipped across the ocean in containers and directly assembled on-site into fully furnished residences. Zhongjian Integrated Building Intelligent Manufacturing (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. created modular houses for Australia, completing plumbing, decoration, and even interior soft furnishings in the factory. These houses were ready for "move-in" upon connecting to utilities on-site.
  • The construction process is highly efficient. Factory-based operations allow most tasks to be completed in the workshop, with only a few processes, such as module assembly and utility connections, needing to be done on-site. For instance, in a project involving an 18-story high-rise residential building in Hong Kong undertaken by a company, the traditional construction method would have taken 3 to 5 years. However, with the modular construction plan, the project was completed and delivered within one year, reducing the overall construction period by 60% to 70%. In the Australian project, installation on-site took only a few days, significantly reducing the construction duration.

Advantages:

  • Environmentally Friendly and Low-Carbon: The on-site "assembly" phase does not generate large-scale noise or construction waste, meeting the stringent requirements of the North American market for green construction.
  • Quality Control: Factory-based operations greatly enhance the precision of product quality control, and workers are no longer exposed to the harsh conditions of outdoor high-altitude work.
  • High Safety Performance: The main structure, consisting of a steel frame paired with fire-resistant rock wool sandwich panels, integrates insulation, fire prevention, sound insulation, and waterproofing. The overall structure can withstand strong typhoons and high-intensity earthquakes, meeting local building codes for safety.
  • Reusability: The houses can be repeatedly disassembled and relocated to different sites, significantly reducing construction waste, dust, and noise pollution.
