40-foot Container House Layout

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The layout of a 40-foot container house can be flexibly designed according to needs, with common plans including single-container layout, combined layout, and split-level layout. Here are the details:

Single-container Layout

The internal dimensions of a single 40-foot container are approximately 12.032m (length) × 2.352m (width) × 2.385m (height). The space is relatively compact, suitable for creating a simple and small living unit. For example, the entrance faces the kitchen, with custom cabinets placed along the wall to form a simple and stylish cooking space. The living room is set at one end of the container, with a sofa area arranged along the window to meet daily leisure needs. The bathroom is located next to the kitchen, using all-white walls and providing natural light and ventilation through a small window. The other end has an independent bedroom equipped with comfortable bedding, with light-transmitting windows on both sides and a dressing mirror placed at the foot of the bed. Although this layout has limited space, through reasonable planning, it can achieve basic living functions.

Combined Layout

Using 2-3 containers for combination can significantly expand the usable space. For example, after combining three 40-foot containers, the dimensions can reach 11.8m × 6.75m × 2.8m, with an available area of about 80 square meters. At this time, the living room can be furnished with sofas and coffee tables, and equipped with TVs, air conditioners, and other devices. The bedroom can accommodate a 1.8-meter-wide double bed, along with wardrobes, bookcases, and office desks. An independent bathroom can also be set up, equipped with facilities such as a bathtub, forming a flat-level layout with an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub to meet family living needs.

Split-level Layout

Stacking containers in a split-level manner can create a richer spatial hierarchy. The ground floor can be reserved for a leisure courtyard or aisle area to improve ventilation and lighting conditions. The upper floor can be set up with functional areas such as bedrooms and living rooms. For example, adding a 40-foot high-cube container (with an internal height of 2.70m) as a second module, placed parallel to the original container with a 6-meter gap in between, forming a covered space that can accommodate two bedrooms and one bathroom, enhancing living comfort.
