Residential container houses in Zhengzhou first appeared in September 2011 at a construction site on the east side of Zhongzhou Avenue in Zhengzhou, serving as temporary dormitories for migrant workers. Currently, there are over a thousand such houses distributed in Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Kaifeng, and other places, with more than 600 located on construction sites in Zhengzhou alone.
Basic Parameters and Facilities
The internal area of a single container is approximately 18 square meters. Some brands, such as Kuaiyiju, offer single-box prefabricated houses with 20-foot containers (6058×2438×2630mm), as well as assembled container houses with 40, 60, and 80-foot containers, supporting vertical or horizontal assembly. The materials are mainly sandwich panels and color-coated steel. For example, Kuaiyiju uses sandwich color-coated steel rock wool panels, which have fire-resistant and thermal insulation properties. The internal facilities include bunk beds, air conditioners, PVC floors, doors, windows, security nets, lighting, sockets, exhaust fans, etc. Some brands reserve air conditioner positions to meet basic living needs.
Rental and Policy Restrictions
The rental price is generally 6 yuan per day, with landlords often adopting a monthly package form. Tenants are required to sign contracts and pay deposits, while utilities need to be resolved independently. Some brands, such as Kuaiyiju, support a combination of rental and sales. In terms of policies, due to the failure to meet the 30-square-meter standard required for special industries, such dormitories cannot obtain formal hotel qualifications. Moreover, they are damp and cold in winter, lack openable windows and shower rooms, violating the 'Environmental and Hygiene Standards for Construction Sites,' and have long been without effective supervision.

Container houses have characteristics such as good thermal and sound insulation, no need for foundations, easy transportation and mobility, strong stability, and long service life. They can adapt to complex terrains such as hillsides, hills, and deserts, occupying little space and being clean and hygienic. Their modular design supports arbitrary combinations without disassembly, with walls resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, good sealing, and capable of waterproofing and wind resistance. Additionally, they are affordable and support personalized customization, such as adjusting dimensions or adding facilities according to needs.
