Zhanqiao Mobile Toilet
There are mainly two types of mobile toilets at Zhanqiao: new modular mobile toilets and luxury mobile public toilets.
New Modular Mobile Toilets: Qingdao has put modular mobile public toilets into use at scenic spots such as Zhanqiao. These toilets adopt standardized modular design. Each unit is about 3 meters long and 2 meters wide, consisting of a main frame, an environmentally friendly toilet system, and a solar power supply module. The basic modules come with universal wheels, allowing for easy transportation by small forklifts or special vehicles. Multiple units can also be combined to form a "toilet cluster" for rapid capacity expansion during peak tourist seasons. For example, during last year's Qingdao Beer Festival, staff assembled a temporary toilet cluster with 10 stalls around the Beer City in just 2 hours, saving 80% of the time compared to traditional construction methods. These toilets are equipped with biodegradable toilets and rainwater harvesting systems. Fecal matter is transported to treatment stations through dedicated pipes, while urine is purified and used for watering plants, achieving resource recycling. The configuration of solar panels and energy storage batteries enables the toilets to operate independently 24/7, completely detached from the urban power grid, making them both environmentally friendly and energy-efficient. Currently, Qingdao has invested in over 200 mobile toilets in 12 key areas including Zhanqiao, and plans to extend their use to the backstreets and alleys of the old city in the next step.
Luxury Mobile Public Toilets: To address the difficulty of finding toilets during the peak tourist season at scenic spots, Shinan District has installed mobile public toilets near Zhanqiao. Previously, four-stall mobile toilets were installed at coastal scenic spots such as Zhanqiao and Huiquan Square, each costing 100,000 yuan. There is also a brand-new luxury toilet in use at Zhanqiao, which is divided into men's, women's, and disabled toilets. The women's toilet has 7 stalls, the men's toilet has 5 urinals and 4 stalls, and there is a separate disabled toilet. It adopts Expo technology to solve the problem of toilet water supply and drainage, making it more environmentally friendly. In addition, among the four luxury environmentally friendly mobile public toilets installed along the coastal front line in Shinan District, one is located near the east side of Zhanqiao. Each toilet has two stalls, costs 200,000 yuan, is entirely made of stainless steel inside, uses high-grade anti-corrosion materials on the outside, and all other facilities are of medium to high grade. There are two solar panels and power generation equipment on the top, increasing the cost by 30,000 to 40,000 yuan alone. These toilets operate on a paid basis, with both coin-operated and manned management options available.
