Zhangye Container House Construction

Admin September 16, 2026

The construction of container houses in Zhangye takes standardized containers as the core, achieving efficient construction through a combination of factory prefabrication and on-site assembly, featuring fast speed, high flexibility, and environmental protection.

Construction Process

  1. Design Phase: Based on land conditions and usage requirements, overall planning is carried out using a single container as the basic module. Key considerations include structural safety, thermal insulation performance, layout of pre-embedded water and electricity pipelines, and the feasibility of subsequent transportation and lifting. For example, the design needs to reserve positions for door and window openings and ensure space utilization after container combination.
  2. Factory Production: The main structure of the container is fabricated in the factory, including steel rolling frames, installation of wall panels/roofs/floors, reservation of door and window openings, and simultaneous internal decoration (such as wall base treatment and floor leveling). Quality is controlled through standardized processes at this stage to reduce on-site construction errors.
  3. Transportation and Lifting: After protective treatment, the produced container modules are transported to the site by large vehicles and lifted onto pre-prepared foundations using cranes according to design drawings. Lifting a single container takes only a few hours, and the main assembly of multiple containers can be completed within 1-2 days.
  4. On-site Installation and Commissioning: After the modules are connected and fixed with bolts or welding, interface sealing treatment (such as filling with waterproof glue), external decoration (such as painting or cladding), and internal fine decoration are carried out. Finally, the water and electricity pipelines are connected, and the system operation is tested to ensure the house meets usage standards.

Construction Features

  1. Efficiency and Environmental Protection: Factory prefabrication reduces on-site wet operations, shortening the overall construction period by 30%-50% compared to traditional buildings and reducing construction waste generation by about 60%.
  2. Low Foundation Requirements: Only leveling the site and laying gravel or concrete foundations are required, eliminating the need for deep excavation, which is suitable for the geological conditions in Zhangye.
  3. Flexibility and Mobility: Containers can be combined horizontally or vertically to form diverse spaces, and internal non-load-bearing partitions can be adjusted; the house can be lifted and relocated as a whole, meeting temporary or rapid deployment needs (such as emergency rescue and construction site offices).
  4. Optimized Material Adaptability: In response to Zhangye's dry climate with large temperature differences between day and night, the container steel is treated with anti-rust coating, filled with rock wool or polyurethane foam insulation layers inside, and uses composite sandwich panels (filled with glass wool in the middle) for exterior walls, combined with efficient sealing technology to maintain stable indoor temperatures and reduce energy consumption.
