Xinzhuang Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

The container houses in Xinzhuang, represented by the 'Xin Space Xinzhuang Business District Party-Mass Service Station', showcase innovative applications of container architecture in terms of functionality and design aesthetics.

I. Project Background and Design Concept

The Xin Space Party-Mass Service Station is located within the Chunshenhu Party-Mass Cultural Park at No. 141 Xiubo Road, Xinzhuang Town, Minhang District, Shanghai, with a building area of approximately 90 square meters. Designed by Shanghai Jizhuangke Cultural Development Co., Ltd., the project draws inspiration from the concept of 'metamorphosis', integrating container architecture with natural elements. The designer extracted forms from butterflies and chrysalises in flower clusters, designing the main body of the party-mass service station in an 'egg' shape, while the red exhibition hall symbolizes the wings of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, endowing the building with dynamic beauty and symbolic significance.

II. Functional Zoning and Space Utilization

The building is divided into four functional areas:

  • Rest Room: Provides a space for community residents to rest briefly;
  • Glimmer Public Welfare Room: Used for organizing and conducting public welfare activities;
  • Enterprise Service Workstation: Offers policy consultation and problem-solving services for enterprises;
  • Red Exhibition Hall: Serves as a base for red culture education, displaying historical knowledge and conducting science popularization activities.

Through modular assembly of containers, the spatial layout is compact and flexible, meeting diverse community needs.

III. Materials and Construction Techniques

  • Main Structure: Utilizes weathering steel (1.6 mm thick) as wall material, balancing strength and durability;
  • Door and Window Systems: Walls and alloy doors and windows are prefabricated in the factory and assembled on-site, enhancing construction efficiency;
  • Energy Solution: Solar panels are installed on the roof to meet light electricity demands such as lighting and air conditioning, reflecting green building principles;
  • Exterior Decoration: Extracts colorful elements from butterfly wings, enhancing visual appeal through spray painting and breaking away from the industrial feel of traditional containers.

IV. Construction Efficiency and Cost Advantages

The project took only one month from design to completion, with the factory prefabrication stage requiring just a few days and on-site lifting and assembly taking only 2 hours. This integrated 'design-production-installation' model significantly shortens the construction period while reducing construction noise and dust pollution, meeting the dual demands of efficiency and environmental protection in urban renewal.
