Mobile Toilets for Self-Driving Tours in Xinjiang

Admin September 21, 2026

Mobile toilets are crucial facilities for addressing toilet needs during self-driving tours in Xinjiang, with diverse types and significant functions.

Functions of Mobile Toilets

Xinjiang has a vast territory, with long distances between scenic spots and extended highway journeys. Some road sections lack fixed service areas or viewing platforms. Mobile toilets can effectively meet the toilet needs of tourists and long-distance drivers, enhancing the comfort and humanization of tourism services. During the peak tourist season, the capacity of fixed toilets in scenic spots is limited and cannot meet the instantaneous high influx of people. Adding mobile toilets can divert the crowd and reduce waiting times. For large scenic spots with vast areas and scattered attractions, mobile toilets can be flexibly deployed at key points along walking tour routes. For example, in the 2024 peak tourist season, Xinjiang added 280 mobile toilets, and plans to add 50 more along tourist routes in 2025.

Types of Mobile Toilets

  • Simple and Economical Type: It has a simple structure, mainly consisting of single compartments, equipped with basic toilets, handrails, hooks, and ventilation windows. It is lightweight, low-cost, and can be deployed quickly. It is commonly used in short-term large gatherings, temporary construction sites, or emergency situations with a sudden increase in people flow.
  • Environmentally Friendly and Recycling Type: It focuses on resource conservation and environmental protection. Some use biodegradation technology to treat waste, some are equipped with water-saving flushing systems, and some even use solar energy for lighting or auxiliary power. It is mostly applied in ecologically fragile scenic spots or areas around nature reserves in Xinjiang.
  • Multi-functional Comprehensive Type: Similar to a movable public service station, in addition to multiple toilet compartments, it may also include a management room, a tool room, and even a third toilet. Some are equipped with washbasins, mirrors, lighting, and ventilation systems, offering relatively high comfort. It often serves as a long-term or semi-professional service point in scenic spots and urban public areas.
  • Trailer-mounted Type: Installed on a trailer chassis, it has strong mobility and can be quickly transferred by being towed by a vehicle. It is suitable for highly mobile temporary needs such as marathons, large-scale celebrations, and field explorations.

Precautions

On some remote highways, such as the Duku Highway and S101, there are few toilet facilities. In addition to relying on mobile toilets, bringing a portable toilet is also a good emergency solution. Although Xinjiang continues to promote the tourism toilet revolution and the problem of difficult toilet access in southern Xinjiang has been greatly alleviated, during peak tourist seasons, some popular scenic spots may still experience short queues.
