Xiangxi Container House Construction

Admin September 16, 2026

The construction of container houses in Xiangxi requires comprehensive consideration of various factors, including design planning, material selection, construction process, and post-construction maintenance.

I. Design Planning The design of container houses should focus on spatial layout and functional zoning. Functional areas can be expanded through the combination of containers (e.g., joining 2-3 containers) or staggered stacking to form spaces such as living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For small units, it is recommended to use multifunctional furniture such as foldable beds and integrated cabinets to enhance space utilization. Additionally, proper planning of lighting and insulation is essential: installing large floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights to improve lighting; adding internal insulation layers to walls and roofs and using triple-glazed windows to enhance insulation performance; and installing roof eaves or sunshades to prevent overheating in summer.

II. Materials and Construction

  1. Material Selection: Corrosion-resistant steel should be prioritized for the main structure, with cutting and welding areas sanded and coated with epoxy primer and topcoat for rust prevention. The enclosure system can use rock wool sandwich panels or polystyrene foam boards, providing both thermal insulation and fire resistance.
  2. Construction Process:
    • Foundation Construction: Containers should be elevated on pile foundations to avoid direct contact with the ground, preventing moisture and pest issues.
    • Module Assembly: Box connections are completed through lifting positioning and high-strength bolt fastening, with sealant applied to joint seams to prevent leakage.
    • Acceptance Criteria: Inspect easily rusted areas such as welds and corners to ensure no missed or weak welds; test the airtightness of doors and windows and the safety of electrical and water lines.

III. Approval and Compliance For long-term residence, construction approval must be obtained according to local requirements, providing structural drawings and avoiding construction in prohibited areas such as cultivated land and basic farmland. Leased land can only be used for temporary structures, and the contract must clearly specify the nature of use.

IV. Post-Construction Maintenance

  1. Rust Prevention: Inspect welds, bottoms, and other areas annually, immediately sanding and repainting any rust spots; recoat with anti-corrosion paint every 8-12 years in inland areas, 7-10 years in humid southern regions, and 3-5 years in coastal areas.
  2. Waterproof Sealing: Replace sealant around doors and windows and container joints every 5-7 years; regularly clean roof debris to prevent drainage system blockages.
  3. Condensation Prevention: Add a moisture barrier to the inner walls of the container and maintain ventilation to prevent condensation caused by large temperature differences.
