Wuhan Construction Site Portable Toilet Design

Admin October 11, 2026

The design of portable toilets for construction sites in Wuhan needs to be comprehensively planned from six dimensions: materials, structure, sewage disposal, ventilation, configuration, and transportation, taking into account the local climate and site requirements. The specific design points are as follows:

1. Material selection should adapt to Wuhan's climate
Wuhan experiences hot and rainy summers, cold and damp winters, and high air humidity. Therefore, materials must possess strong weather resistance and corrosion resistance. The recommended main materials are high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP):

  • HDPE forms a seamless structure through one-time rotational molding, effectively preventing seepage and avoiding rusting of the internal framework, making it suitable for humid environments;
  • FRP is composed of resin and glass fibers, lightweight and strong, suitable for frequent lifting scenarios, but requires the addition of UV stabilizers to prevent aging from sun exposure.
    In addition, the thickness of the anti-rust coating on the galvanized steel pipe framework should be increased, and the welding points should be sealed to prevent rusting and structural embrittlement.

2. Modular structure enhances installation efficiency
Adopt a modular design, dividing functional units into wall, roof, chassis, door, and internal accessory modules for easy and quick assembly and maintenance:

  • The chassis module needs to have sewage pipe interfaces and fixed bolt holes pre-embedded;
  • The wall module should have ventilation windows and electrical wiring channels reserved;
  • Connection methods can be chosen between mortise-and-tenon snap-fit (for quick assembly and disassembly) or bolt fastening (for long-term fixation).
    The framework design should balance load-bearing and transportation deformation, for example, the spacing between reinforcing ribs on the floor should not exceed 400 millimeters, and the depth of the wall panel insertion slots affects the wind resistance rating.

3. Sewage disposal system should be independent of municipal sewers
Construction sites usually lack underground sewers, so non-piped sewage disposal solutions are required:

  • Sewage collection tank + vacuum negative pressure extraction: The tank capacity is calculated based on usage frequency (approximately 0.5 liters of liquid per person per use), with the exhaust pipe led to a high place to prevent odor backflow, and the bottom designed with a slope angle of more than 2 degrees for easy cleaning;
  • Circulating flushing system: Achieves water conservation through biological enzyme degradation and filtration reflux, requiring space for aeration and stirring devices.
    Remote construction sites should prioritize the circulating water type, with a built-in biological treatment tank for microbial degradation of feces.

4. Ventilation and odor removal mechanisms should be efficient
Design a "negative pressure airflow path" to achieve physical convection:

  • Install air intake grilles at the top of the walls and exhaust vents at the bottom, allowing air to enter from the top, pass through the toilet area, and exit from the bottom;
  • In scenarios without electricity, use "wind cap" natural ventilation devices that utilize wind pressure differences to extract odors;
  • The trap depth of the toilet should be at least 50 millimeters to isolate pipeline gases.
    In summer heat, natural air ducts can be combined with solar-powered exhaust fans to reduce electricity dependence.

5. Internal components should be configured according to the site requirements
Customize according to the needs of the user group:

  • The flushing system can be chosen between direct discharge (dependent on external sewers) or circulating water (with a built-in biological treatment tank);
  • For elderly groups or temporary medical stations, handrails and non-slip floors should be installed;
  • All components should be pre-marked with dimensions and interface standards to ensure a perfect fit with the shell.

6. Load calculation and transportation limits should comply with regulations
The structural design should withstand self-weight, user weight, wind load (Wuhan's basic wind pressure is 0.35 kN/m²), and dynamic lifting forces, with the connection nodes between walls and roof passing wind pull-out tests. The transportation limits require road widths not exceeding 2.5 meters and heights not exceeding 4 meters, with the width of a single toilet controlled between 1.2-1.8 meters, length not exceeding 2.4 meters, and height designed with roof slopes to balance internal space and transportation restrictions.
