Worker's Container Renovated House
Admin September 15, 2026
It is feasible for workers to renovate container houses, and there have been many practical cases. The following introduces the renovation methods, advantages, cases, and precautions:

Renovation Methods
- Structural Reinforcement and Optimization: Reinforce the original structure of the container, such as adding C-shaped steel purlins to distribute the load and solve the problem of insufficient floor stiffness caused by the large spacing between the longitudinal beams of the bottom frame. After shot blasting and rust removal on the container surface, apply protective paint to enhance the service life of the steel in complex environments.
- Thermal Insulation Treatment: Adopt a three-layer structure to improve thermal performance. The outer layer is galvanized sheet to resist wind and sand erosion, the middle layer is filled with rock wool as the main insulation layer, and the inner layer uses PVC-coated steel sheet to reduce thermal radiation. Some enterprises also add an elevated layer at the bottom of the container to block the conduction of ground cold bridges and reduce the heat conduction channels at the steel frame through a broken-bridge lining structure.
- Functional Zoning Design: Adopt a functional overlapping strategy according to the fixed container size, compress the kitchen and bathroom to one end of the container to form a wet area, and use integrated bathroom technology to achieve waterproof integration. The living and sleeping areas achieve day-night functional switching through variable furniture, such as wall-mounted folding tables and drop-down beds.
Advantages
- Cost Control: Compared with traditional concrete buildings, container houses have a high recycling rate of materials throughout their entire life cycle and lower carbon emissions. Moreover, the disassembly and assembly loss rate is controlled within 5%, significantly reducing the generation of construction waste.
- Flexibility and Convenience: Support single-container use or multi-container splicing, with convenient transportation and high installation efficiency. Some products can achieve the "factory prefabrication + on-site quick assembly" mode, shortening the construction period.
- Strong Adaptability: Through structural reinforcement and thermal performance optimization, they can meet the usage requirements under different climatic conditions. For example, in severely cold areas in northern China in winter, the indoor-outdoor temperature difference can be reduced through multi-layer insulation construction.
Practical Cases
- Guangzhou Couple's Wedding House: A 17㎡ container was renovated into a wedding house. Ventilation was optimized by opening windows, the orientation was adjusted to avoid west sun exposure, and soft furnishings were used to achieve living functions.
- African Labor Camp: Container houses were used as temporary accommodation facilities, and system integration was adopted to solve the living needs under extreme working conditions in desert areas.
- Commercial Space Renovation: Containers have been renovated into commercial spaces such as coffee shops, milk tea shops, and sales offices, showcasing quality and fashion through creative design.
