Wooden Prefabricated House
Admin September 18, 2026
A wooden prefabricated house is a type of housing where wooden structural components are pre-processed in a factory and then transported to the site for assembly. It is relatively popular in Europe and the United States. The following is an introduction from multiple aspects:

- Production and Installation: Wooden structural components are precisely processed in the factory in advance and then transported to the site for assembly, similar to building with building blocks. For example, factories in the Pearl River Delta region of China dismantle reinforced concrete or wooden houses into individual modules, produce them through assembly-line operations, and then package and ship them abroad. Upon arrival, they are assembled and the connection areas are simply treated before occupancy. This production and installation method significantly shortens the construction cycle and improves efficiency.
- Price Advantage: A prefabricated house is relatively affordable. Taking Chinese-made prefabricated houses as an example, a set can be shipped to European and American countries for as little as 200,000 RMB. In contrast, in European and American countries, due to high labor costs for construction workers, the combined cost of labor and materials for traditional house construction can easily exceed one million RMB. Therefore, prefabricated houses offer extremely high cost-effectiveness, which is a major reason for their popularity in Europe and the United States.
- Quality Situation: Compared to well-built self-constructed houses, some prefabricated houses may have inferior quality, with less stable structures and a tendency for cracks and water leakage at module connections. In China, they are often used as temporary housing, commonly found on construction sites. However, in Europe and the United States, their quality disadvantages are relatively less pronounced when compared to local traditional house construction methods.
- Types and Characteristics: Wooden houses use wood as the main load-bearing system, primarily constructed with logs, glued laminated timber, or dimension lumber, combined with metal fasteners or traditional mortise-and-tenon joints. They possess characteristics such as earthquake resistance, fire resistance, and moisture resistance. There are various structural types, including post-and-beam structures, light wood frame structures, structural insulated panels (SIPs), and wooden block structures. Modern wooden structures have broken through traditional limitations with the advancement of integrated material technology. New materials like glued laminated timber allow small-sized wood to be combined into large-span components, widely used in stadiums, villas, and other fields.
- Market Situation: In the first half of this year, Chinese prefabricated houses experienced a surge in overseas orders. In the first quarter, the export growth rate of Chinese prefabricated buildings reached 45%. Guangdong Customs alone exported 1.4 billion RMB worth of goods in the first four months, a year-on-year increase of 38.1%. On platforms like Alibaba, various types of prefabricated wooden houses are available for sale, such as custom anti-corrosion wooden houses from Shenzhen manufacturers with a 10-day delivery time, and custom 40-foot movable containers from export wood grain residential container manufacturers.
