Why Puppies Like to Sleep in Mobile Toilets

Admin October 01, 2026

The reasons why puppies like to sleep in mobile toilets mainly include factors such as instinct, environment, space, temperature, and a sense of security. These issues can be addressed by separating areas and preparing a comfortable resting area.

Reasons

  • Instinct: In a dog's cognitive system, there is no clear distinction between a toilet and a bed. They simply choose a resting place based on their own feelings of comfort and safety. A mobile toilet may just meet their psychological needs for comfort and security.
  • Environmental factors: The location of a mobile toilet may have some environmental characteristics that attract puppies. For example, it may be relatively quiet, allowing puppies to avoid excessive external interference; or it may have a more spacious area, giving puppies some room to move around; or it may be well-ventilated and relatively cool. These factors may make puppies more inclined to choose to rest there.
  • Spatial factors: If the living area arranged for puppies is too small, it is difficult for them to form a clear concept of different functional areas. In a limited space, they cannot clearly distinguish between the resting area and the elimination area, thus increasing the likelihood of sleeping in the elimination area (the mobile toilet).
  • Temperature factors: When the pad in the doghouse is too thick or the space in the doghouse is too small, puppies may feel uncomfortable due to stuffiness in summer. In comparison, the mobile toilet may be cooler, so puppies will choose to rest there to escape the heat.
  • Sense of security: Puppies that have just arrived at a new home are often timid when facing an unfamiliar environment. The mobile toilet has the smell of the puppy's own excrement, and this familiar smell makes the puppy feel more secure, as if it is in a relatively familiar and controllable environment.

Solutions

  • Separate the resting area and the toilet: Clearly divide the puppy's resting area and toilet area so that the puppy can clearly distinguish the different functions of these two areas and avoid confusion.
  • Prepare a comfortable resting area: Create a comfortable and warm exclusive resting area for the puppy, place soft pads and familiar items, and let it gradually get used to and recognize this place as a resting place.
  • Expand the living space: Appropriately increase the puppy's living space and place the toilet at a relatively far distance from the resting area to reduce the connection and interference between the two.
  • Increase the attractiveness of the doghouse: Place the puppy's favorite toys in the doghouse or use items such as ice pads to increase the comfort of the doghouse and attract the puppy to rest there.
  • Positive training and guidance: Through rewards and encouragement, teach the puppy to go to the toilet in the correct place and reinforce its correct behavior.
