Where Does the Feces from Mobile Toilets Go?

Admin October 11, 2026

The destinations of feces from mobile toilets mainly include natural treatment, septic tank treatment, and fecal suction truck collection and treatment.

Natural treatment: Some eco-friendly mobile public toilets are equipped with fecal pits that utilize natural ecological principles for feces treatment. In these pits, there are a large number of bacteria that can decompose the organic matter in feces, converting it into relatively simple compounds. Additionally, parasitic earthworms participate in the biological sedimentation process, further treating the feces and accelerating the decomposition and transformation of organic matter. Through this method, most of the organic matter in the feces is decomposed, reducing the volume and harmful substance content of the feces. The treated material is relatively eco-friendly and has a smaller impact on the environment. However, this natural treatment method has certain requirements for environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity. Only under suitable conditions can bacteria and earthworms fully function to ensure the treatment effect.

Septic tank treatment: This is a relatively common treatment method that utilizes the principles of sedimentation, anaerobic digestion, and fermentation. When feces enter the septic tank, the suspended solids and colloidal substances in the sewage gradually settle down as scum. Through the anaerobic fermentation process, the organic matter is further decomposed. After treatment, the purified water can be recycled and reused, for example, for flushing toilets, or discharged into the environment. The treated feces are usually used as fertilizer in soak pits to provide nutrients for plants. However, septic tank treatment also has certain drawbacks. If the anti-seepage measures of the septic tank are not in place, harmful substances in the feces may seep into the ground, potentially causing groundwater pollution and posing a threat to the surrounding environment and residents' water safety.

Fecal suction truck collection and treatment: In remote areas without a complete municipal sewer network, temporary event venues, and other places where the feces from mobile public toilets cannot be directly connected to the municipal sewer network for treatment, the fecal suction truck collection and treatment method is adopted. Mobile toilets are regularly collected by fecal suction trucks, which then transport the feces to specialized feces treatment plants. In these plants, the feces undergo harmless treatment to remove harmful substances and pathogens, meeting environmental protection standards before subsequent disposal, such as being made into organic fertilizers, to achieve resource reuse.
