What to Do If a Mobile Toilet Is Blocked

Admin October 09, 2026

Mobile toilet blockages can be addressed using the following methods, depending on the type of blockage:

  1. Plunger Unclogging
Suitable for minor blockages caused by toilet paper or soft feces. Position the rubber plunger over the drain opening, ensuring its edges form a tight seal with the toilet to prevent air leakage. Then, repeatedly press down to create pressure that dislodges the blockage. This method is less effective for blockages caused by hard objects (such as toys or bottle caps), and excessive force should be avoided to prevent splashing of sewage.

  2. Pipe Dissolving Agent
For blockages caused by grease or fecal buildup, a dissolving agent containing sodium hydroxide or sodium hypochlorite can be used. Pour the agent into the drain according to the instructions and let it sit, allowing the chemical components to break down organic matter. Wear gloves during operation to avoid skin contact with corrosive substances, and ensure ventilation for at least 30 minutes after use. This method is ineffective for inorganic materials like plastic or metal and should not be mixed with other cleaning agents.

  3. Hot Water Flushing
Slowly pour 5-10 liters of hot water (below 70°C) into the toilet to soften grease and some fecal clumps. A small amount of dish detergent can be added to enhance cleaning. Avoid sudden temperature changes in ceramic toilets to prevent cracking, and use caution with older toilets.

  4. Wire Hook for Hard Objects
If the blockage is caused by solid objects like toys or bottle caps, a metal coat hanger can be reshaped into a hook and inserted into the pipe to retrieve the object. Operate gently to avoid scratching the ceramic glaze, and thoroughly clean the tool after removing the object. This method is less effective for deep blockages or curved pipes and may push the object further in.

  5. Contact Professional Unclogging Services
If the above methods fail, or if the blockage involves the main pipe or stubborn hard objects, immediately contact a licensed unclogging professional. Equipped with electric unclogging machines or high-pressure water jets, they can accurately determine the pipe layout and blockage location, avoiding pipe damage or sewage backup caused by DIY attempts. Professional unclogging typically costs between 100-500 yuan, depending on the complexity of the blockage.

Precautions:

  • Turn off the water supply to the mobile toilet before unclogging to prevent sewage overflow.
  • Avoid using strong acid cleaners, which may corrode pipe materials.
  • Regularly clean the mobile toilet to reduce the risk of blockages.
