What to Do About Water Dripping from Container Houses

Admin September 17, 2026

Targeted measures should be taken to address water dripping from container houses based on the specific causes. The common situations and solutions are as follows:

I. Roof or Wall Leakage

If the water dripping originates from the roof or walls, it is necessary to prioritize the inspection for structural damage. First, check the roof and walls for cracks, holes, or loose connections. Use waterproof glue, sealing strips, or specialized repair materials to fill the gaps. For metal container houses, pay special attention to connection areas such as welds and rivets, and re-weld or reinforce them if necessary. Second, enhance waterproofing performance: Install waterproof membranes (such as PVC or TPO materials) on the roof and walls or apply waterproof coatings to form a continuous waterproof layer. Use sealing strips or silicone sealants at joints such as doors, windows, and vents to prevent rainwater infiltration.

II. Condensation of Water Droplets Indoors in Winter

In low-temperature environments, a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors can easily cause water vapor to condense into water droplets on walls and ceilings. It is necessary to alleviate the problem by controlling humidity and temperature:

  • Maintain ventilation: Open windows regularly every day or activate mechanical ventilation systems to accelerate air circulation and reduce indoor humidity.
  • Use dehumidification equipment: Place dehumidifiers or turn on the dehumidification mode of air conditioners to actively absorb moisture. If the humidity is extremely high, use heaters in combination to raise the indoor temperature and reduce water vapor condensation.
  • Regularly clean water droplets: Wipe off the condensed water droplets with a dry cloth or absorbent paper to prevent long-term dampness from causing mold growth.
  • Place desiccants: Place calcium chloride desiccants or bamboo charcoal bags in corners or areas prone to condensation to absorb residual moisture. Replace them every 1-2 weeks to maintain effectiveness.

III. Bottom Seepage

If the water dripping originates from the bottom of the container house, it is necessary to check the structural slots or ground drainage. For seepage from the slots, use an electric hand drill with a long drill bit to drill holes at the upper opening of the bottom edge to guide the accumulated water to drain (this operation should be carried out in combination with the specific structure to avoid damaging the main body). If it is due to groundwater backflow, raise the foundation of the container house or improve the drainage slope around it to ensure that rainwater drains away quickly.

IV. Preventive Maintenance

Regularly inspect the waterproof layer and drainage system: Check the roof drains and gutters every quarter for blockages and clear away leaves and debris. Inspect the waterproof membrane or coating every year for aging or cracking, and repair or replace it in a timely manner. Strengthen the water resistance of the structure: For container houses that are frequently disassembled and assembled, focus on checking the tightness of the connection areas and replace aging sealing strips or rivets. Equip with emergency supplies: Store waterproof cloths, buckets, absorbent mats, and other tools so that in the event of a sudden leak, they can be used to temporarily cover the gaps or collect accumulated water, reducing losses.

By conducting systematic inspections and targeted treatments, the problem of water dripping from container houses can be effectively solved, and their service life can be extended.
