What Materials Are Used for Prefabricated Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

Prefabricated houses mainly use prefabricated panels, new environmentally friendly materials, reinforced concrete, steel-concrete composites, and other auxiliary materials.

Prefabricated Panels

Prefabricated panels are cement components prefabricated in factories. During the manufacturing process, wooden boards are first used to create the required molds. Then, steel bars are arranged inside the molds, and finally, cement is poured in. After the cement solidifies, prefabricated panels are formed. There are two types of prefabricated panels: solid and hollow. Solid prefabricated panels have a relatively dense structure and strong load-bearing capacity. Hollow prefabricated panels, on the other hand, reduce their own weight while ensuring a certain level of strength, making transportation and installation easier. They are widely used in construction scenarios where weight is a concern.

New Environmentally Friendly Materials

With the enhancement of environmental awareness, the application of new environmentally friendly materials in prefabricated houses is increasing. These materials are recyclable. When the house is demolished or renovated, these materials can be recovered and reprocessed for reuse, greatly reducing the generation of construction waste and environmental pollution. At the same time, new environmentally friendly materials usually do not contain harmful substances and do not release harmful gases during the use of the house, ensuring the health of the occupants.

Reinforced Concrete

In the prefabricated houses popular in rural areas of Henan, a full reinforced concrete structure is often used. Reinforced concrete combines the tensile properties of steel bars and the compressive properties of concrete, making the house structure more sturdy and durable. Steel bars can withstand tensile forces, preventing concrete from cracking under tensile stress. Concrete, on the other hand, wraps around the steel bars, protecting them from corrosion and extending the service life of the house.

Steel-Concrete Composites

For example, in CMC composite modular buildings, through the overall pouring of steel and concrete, the advantages of steel and concrete are fully utilized. This composite structure can improve the seismic performance of the house. In the event of an earthquake, the flexibility of steel and the rigidity of concrete work together to effectively absorb and disperse seismic energy, reducing the degree of damage to the house and ensuring the safety of the occupants.

Other Materials

In the manufacturing process of prefabricated panels, some auxiliary materials are also involved, such as steel strands, load-bearing bars, anchoring components, and plastic blocks. Steel strands can enhance the tensile capacity of prefabricated panels. Load-bearing bars are used to bear the loads applied to the prefabricated panels. Anchoring components can firmly fix the steel bars in the concrete. Plastic blocks can form cavities in the prefabricated panels, reducing their weight and serving other purposes.
