What is the Interlayer of Container Houses

Admin September 16, 2026

The interlayer of a container house is a structure located between the inner and outer layers of the container, composed of one or more layers of materials. Its main functions are to increase the strength of the container house and provide thermal insulation and heat preservation properties. Here is a detailed introduction to the interlayers of container houses:

Common Materials and Their Characteristics

  • Polyurethane Foam: This is a widely used interlayer material. It has many excellent properties and performs exceptionally well in thermal insulation, effectively preventing heat transfer and maintaining a stable temperature inside the container house. It also has good fire resistance, which can delay the spread of fire to a certain extent in case of a fire. Additionally, polyurethane foam has strong impact and corrosion resistance, protecting the structure of the container house from external impacts and chemical erosion, thereby extending its service life.
  • Rock Wool: Rock wool has outstanding high-temperature resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1250 degrees Celsius, giving it a significant advantage in fire prevention. Besides fire resistance, it also has thermal insulation, sound absorption, and earthquake resistance properties. However, its thermal insulation effect is slightly inferior to that of polyurethane foam, with a thermal conductivity more than twice that of polyurethane, meaning its thermal insulation capacity is not as good as polyurethane foam under the same conditions.
  • Polystyrene Board: It is a foamed polystyrene sheet with excellent thermal insulation and heat preservation properties, effectively reducing heat loss. It also has good compression resistance, waterproofing, moisture resistance, and fire resistance, adapting to different environmental conditions and ensuring the stability and safety of the container house.
  • Rigid Polyurethane Foam: As a polymer composite material, rigid polyurethane foam also has outstanding thermal insulation, heat preservation, fire resistance, impact resistance, and corrosion resistance properties, similar to polyurethane foam, providing reliable protection and thermal insulation for container houses.

Mixed Application

In practical applications, to fully leverage the advantages of different materials, a mixed approach is also adopted. For example, polyurethane is used for thermal insulation, utilizing its good thermal insulation properties to maintain the temperature inside the house; at the same time, rock wool is used as a fire belt, utilizing its excellent fire resistance to enhance fire prevention capabilities at critical locations, improving the overall safety and performance of the container house.
