What Is a Prefabricated Building?
A prefabricated building is one assembled on site from prefabricated parts and components. By the form of prefabricated elements and construction method, it falls into five types: block buildings, panel buildings, box-type buildings, frame-panel buildings, and lift-slab / lift-story buildings.
When walls, columns, beams, floors, roofs, and other parts of a building are prefabricated in a factory, shipped to the construction site, and fitted together like building blocks into a complete structure, that is called a "prefabricated building."

Advantages of prefabricated buildings
Better quality: Components can be mass-produced to standards, almost unaffected by weather, so quality is more reliable;
Energy saving and environmental protection: Less material waste during construction, and much less construction waste on site;
Shorter schedule: After components are produced, they are hauled to the site for assembly, cutting some processes and greatly speeding construction;
Less labor: Factory production of components reduces labor demand and lowers the physical intensity of on-site work;
Fewer formworks: Composite slabs serve as the bottom form for floors, and exterior hung panels serve as one-side formwork for shear walls, saving a large amount of formwork.
Disadvantages of prefabricated buildings
Higher cost: Project cost for prefabricated buildings is much higher than for traditional construction;
Higher freight: If the component plant is far from the site, transport cost rises;
Size limits: Due to production equipment limits, larger components are harder to manufacture;
Narrower application: Although the country is strongly promoting them, prefabricated buildings still face tight limits on overall building height and story height;
Weaker seismic performance: Integrity and stiffness are somewhat weaker, so resistance to seismic impact is poorer.
