What Does a Container House Look Like

Admin September 17, 2026

A container house is a movable and reusable architectural product that adopts modular design and factory prefabricated production, with the container body as the basic unit, and has a unique appearance and structure.

Appearance Form:
Container houses can be used individually or combined horizontally and vertically to form spacious spaces. Vertically, they can be stacked up to 3 layers. For example, a certain homestay is constructed from three containers, with two standard containers stacked vertically, one side cantilevered, and a widened container at the bottom serving as the main body of the first floor and connecting to other parts. In terms of individual dimensions, the length is 6055mm (indoor net dimension 5845mm), the width is 2990/2435mm (indoor net dimension 2780/2220mm), and the height is 2896mm (indoor net dimension 2500mm). Standardized dimensions facilitate modular combination.

Structural Characteristics:
The container unit structure uses standard components welded from special section steels, and the containers are connected by bolts to ensure structural stability and easy installation. There are differences in structure among different brands. For example, the foldable container mobile house from Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure has a folded volume that is only 1/5 of its expanded state, and a single transportation can carry 10 sets of folded modules; while the standard container mobile house from CIMC Modular Building can only carry 3 sets, reflecting the diversity of structural design.

Internal Space and Decoration:
The internal space of a container house is highly integrated, and it can be occupied without secondary decoration. Taking a certain homestay as an example, the 138-square-meter indoor area is equipped with an equal-area outdoor space. The flat roof is transformed into a terrace, and the space under the cantilevered container forms a sunshade corridor. The core area includes an open kitchen, dining room, mechanical room, master bedroom, master bathroom, and central living room. In terms of material configuration, the roof live load is 1.0KN/㎡, the floor live load is 2.0KN/㎡, and the wind load is 0.6KN/m; the frame is made of hot-dip galvanized section steel, the insulation layer is 100mm glass wool (roof/floor, optional for the floor), the wall is 75mm rock wool color steel composite board (optional 50/100mm), the floor is 1.8mm rubber-plastic floor, the doors and windows are steel doors and plastic-steel sliding windows respectively, the electrical system is prefabricated circuits, the water supply is laid along the wall, and the drainage is treated on the wall side.

Style Presentation:
Container houses pursue a modern style. For example, a certain residence uses RTboard panels, combining metal exterior walls with weathering steel, which not only retains the original texture of the container but also gives the building a refined style, reflecting the integration of industrial aesthetics and modern design.
