The development of container-related aspects in Qinzhou Bay is mainly reflected in the enhancement of port container transportation capacity and the construction of automated container terminals.

Significant Enhancement of Port Container Transportation Capacity
Qinzhou Port has achieved remarkable results in the field of container transportation. Currently, it has completed and put into operation several landmark port and shipping infrastructure projects, such as a 200,000-ton-class one-way container channel and four automated container terminals. It has 54 berths with a capacity of over 10,000 tons, enabling it to berth and navigate various large-scale global vessels, including 200,000-ton-class container ships, and its port handling capacity ranks among the top in the country.
The upgrading of hardware facilities has driven the improvement of the logistics system. Relying on the port and railways, Qinzhou Port has built an efficient and convenient three-dimensional transportation network of "land network + sea network". The container block trains for rail-sea intermodal transportation operate regularly every day and are connected to the China-Europe Railway Express. As of 2025, 91 container shipping routes have been opened, including 48 foreign trade routes to ASEAN countries, with goods reaching 590 ports in 127 countries and regions around the world. In 2025, Qinzhou Port handled 7.462 million TEUs of container throughput, ranking 9th among domestic ports and in the top 30 global ports.
Innovative Development of Automated Container Terminals
The Beibu Gulf Port Automated Container Terminal is located in the Dalanping South Operation Area of the Dalanping Port Area in Qinzhou Port. It is the first automated container terminal for rail-sea intermodal transportation in the country. The terminal was officially put into operation on June 28, 2022. By renovating Berths 7 and 8, the original 70,000-ton-class berths were upgraded to 100,000-ton-class fully automated container terminals. It adopts the world's first U-shaped process layout and integrates technologies such as artificial intelligence and 5G + Beidou positioning to achieve full-process automation of loading and unloading operations, with seamless connection between the rear storage yard and the railway transfer station. The first phase of the project has a total investment of 2.055 billion yuan, forming a 100,000-ton-class berth with a 518.5-meter shoreline and an annual handling capacity of 1.02 million TEUs. In 2023, the second phase of the project completed the construction of a 200,000-ton-class berth, increasing the annual handling capacity to 1.6 million TEUs. In July of the same year, an intelligent lighting management system was launched.
