Weight Standard of Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

The weight of container houses varies depending on their type, size, and material, commonly ranging from 800kg to 3800kg. Here is a detailed analysis:

1. Packed Container Houses
Taking Tengfei packed container houses as an example, they weigh approximately 1350kg and have dimensions of 6055mm×2990mm×2896mm. The frame is made of 2.3-3mm thick galvanized steel, and the walls are 50-75mm color-steel glass wool sandwich panels. The weight of packed container houses from different suppliers may vary slightly due to differences in material thickness or structure, but they generally fall within the range of 1200kg to 1500kg.

2. Standard Container Houses

  • 20-foot Standard Container: External dimensions are 6058mm×2438mm×2591mm, internal dimensions are 5868mm×2252mm×2268mm, and it weighs approximately 2200kg.
  • 40-foot Standard Container: External dimensions are 12192mm×2438mm×2591mm, internal dimensions are 11580mm×2252mm×2268mm, and it weighs approximately 3800kg.
These containers are mostly used for maritime transport, featuring high structural strength and significant self-weight.

3. Foldable and Fixed Container Houses

  • Foldable Container Houses: Weighing approximately 1265kg, they are easy to transport and store.
  • Fixed Container Houses: Weighing approximately 800kg, they have a simplified structure and lower cost.
Both types are mostly 3m×6m (width×length) in size, but the wall panel material (such as rock wool sandwich panels or foam sandwich panels) affects the final weight.

4. Customized Container Houses

  • Duplex Container Houses: Made by joining multiple 40-foot containers, for example, three containers joined together have dimensions of 11.8m×6.75m×2.8m and weigh 2600kg.
  • Non-standard Container Houses: Such as a 10-foot non-standard container weighing approximately 1200kg and a 16-foot non-standard container weighing approximately 1750kg.
Customized products vary significantly due to differences in size, number of floors, or functional requirements (such as earthquake and wind resistance designs).

5. Research on Weight Reduction Optimization Design
By optimizing the structure (such as adjusting the thickness of corner posts and bottom frame beams), the weight of container houses can be reduced by approximately 586kg (a 9.8% reduction). However, such designs are mostly in the research and development stage and have not been widely adopted.

Summary: The weight of container houses is greatly influenced by size, material, and design. Standard maritime containers are the heaviest, while foldable or fixed types are lighter. Customized products require specific evaluation. When purchasing, comprehensive consideration should be given to the intended use, transportation conditions, and budget.
