Waterproof Layer of Container House Roof

Admin September 17, 2026

The waterproof layer of a container house roof typically employs a multi-layer protective structure, with specific construction methods varying depending on the house type and design. Common solutions include the three-layer waterproofing for prefabricated container houses and the six-step standard roof waterproofing method, with some special designs like the Zeyu foldable container house adopting a four-layer structure.

The roof waterproofing of prefabricated container houses usually employs a three-layer protective system. Base treatment is the foundational step, requiring the roof surface to be flat, clean, free of debris and oil stains, and enhanced for adhesion of waterproof coatings through grinding or sweeping. If there are cracks or potholes on the roof, they should be filled with cement mortar and a drainage slope planned to prevent water accumulation. The waterproof coating layer is the core protective layer, necessitating the selection of suitable high-quality waterproof coatings, evenly applied in 2 to 3 coats, with each coat applied only after the previous one has completely dried, ensuring uniform thickness and no missed spots. The waterproof membrane layer, serving as a reinforcement layer, should be laid flat and securely, with joints tightly sealed to prevent water penetration through gaps.

The six-step standard roof waterproofing method (applicable to various roofs and can also be referenced for container houses) emphasizes detailed handling. Base cleaning involves removing old waterproof layers, peeling or bulging layers, exposing the solid original base, cleaning dust and debris, filling cracks or potholes, and planning a drainage slope. During the coating + node reinforcement phase, the first coat of waterproof coating is evenly applied throughout the house, with special attention to areas such as pipe openings, corners, and reserved points. High-leakage areas like wall corners and internal corners adopt the 'one fabric, three coats' technique, with additional waterproof layers prioritized in areas such as drainage pipe roots, parapet corners, and drainage ditches, and thickly coated with leak-stopping compound. During full-coverage polyester fabric + topcoat application, the roof is fully covered with polyester fabric, thoroughly soaked and compacted with waterproof coating, and after drying, a third topcoat is applied, left to air-dry for 24 hours, followed by a 24-48 hour closed-water test (water depth ≥ 10cm). The mortar protective layer should be poured with 2cm cement mortar after waterproofing acceptance and a proper drainage slope made.

Some container houses feature special designs, such as the Zeyu foldable container house, which adopts an exclusive four-layer roof design. The outermost layer is 104-type color-coated steel tiles, with a horizontal small corrugated design overall and a 2cm protrusion in the middle, further enhancing drainage and waterproofing performance.
