Waterless Mobile Toilet

Admin September 23, 2026

A waterless mobile toilet is an environmentally friendly toilet that achieves waste treatment without traditional water flushing, using physical, biological, or chemical technologies to replace the water-flushing function and freeing itself from the constraints of water supply networks, making it suitable for various special scenarios.

Technical Principles and Types

The core of waterless mobile toilets lies in the innovation of waste treatment technologies. Physical technology mainly achieves solid-liquid separation through special structural designs, such as using gravity or mechanical devices to separate the liquid and solid components of excreta. The liquid is then purified for reuse or directly evaporated, while the solid is disposed of through packaging or landfilling. Biological technology relies on composite microbial communities to decompose excreta. For example, certain models are equipped with microbial communities that can operate stably at low temperatures of 40°C, converting organic matter into harmless substances and achieving biodegradation. Chemical technology involves adding chemicals (such as disinfectants and deodorizers) to disinfect, deodorize, and solidify waste, reducing odors and the risk of pathogen transmission.

Application Scenarios and Advantages

The significant advantage of this type of toilet is that it does not require an external water supply and drainage system, making it particularly suitable for the following scenarios:

  1. Areas with water scarcity or no water supply and drainage: Such as arid regions, remote mountainous areas, and desert scenic spots, where traditional water-flushing toilets are difficult to implement due to their reliance on water sources, while waterless mobile toilets can operate independently.
  2. Temporary event venues: Such as large exhibitions, music festivals, and sports events, where their mobility and rapid deployment capabilities can meet the needs of short-term high-traffic usage.
  3. Ecologically sensitive areas: Such as nature reserves and wetland parks, where their zero-discharge design can avoid environmental pollution and comply with sustainable development requirements.

Standards and Specifications

In China, waterless mobile toilets are known as environmentally friendly toilets, ecological toilets, or mobile toilets, with the international generic name being waterless sanitation toilets. Their production and use must comply with the national standard GB/T18092 - 2000 'Waterless Sanitation Toilets', which came into effect on October 1, 2000. This standard specifies design, material, performance, and safety requirements to ensure that products meet environmental and hygiene standards.

Typical Cases

Some models have achieved efficient operation through technological innovation. For example, a certain waterless ecological toilet comes with its own water tank and uses ecological degradation technology, allowing it to serve up to a thousand people in a single cycle while achieving zero discharge and zero pollution. Another model employs low-temperature biodegradation technology, enabling it to stably decompose excreta at 40°C, making it suitable for high-altitude cold regions. These cases demonstrate the advantages of waterless mobile toilets in terms of technological diversity and scenario adaptability.
