Valencia Container House

Admin September 15, 2026

Although Valencia (presumably Valencia) does not directly mention container house cases, container houses are widely used globally and have many advantages, making their application possible in regions like Valencia under suitable scenarios.

Advantages of Container Houses

  • Modular Design, Efficient Construction: Container houses adopt a modular design, allowing for the prefabrication of living units such as walls, floors, ceilings, pipelines, and even bathrooms in factories. They can be quickly assembled on-site like building blocks. For example, container houses at Dongguan Humen Port can be rapidly assembled into schools, hospitals, and other buildings after being transported to construction sites, significantly shortening on-site construction periods. Compared to traditional construction, they can save nearly half the time. For instance, the traditional construction delivery cycle for the MRDC modular hotel project in Papua New Guinea was 14 to 18 months, while the modular solution took only about 7 months in total.
  • Lower Costs: Significant savings in labor costs are achieved. In countries like Europe and the United States, skilled construction workers earn hourly wages equivalent to RMB 200 to 400, with labor accounting for up to 40% of the total project cost. Additional costs for foreign labor in remote areas are extremely high. However, container houses require fewer on-site workers and have significantly shorter construction periods, not only saving on wages but also eliminating many hidden costs such as labor management, accommodation, safety training, and visa approvals. Additionally, lightweight steel structural modules greatly reduce the consumption of foundation and main structural materials, lowering material usage by 60 - 70%. Standardized CNC cutting in factories results in only 3% - 5% waste, compared to 8% - 12% waste on traditional construction sites.
  • Flexibility and Portability: Container houses can be flexibly combined and expanded according to needs, suitable for different spatial requirements. They are also portable, allowing for recovery and removal when land permits expire.

Application Cases of Container Houses

  • Holiday Homes: For example, "Envase Casa" in Costa Rica uses six 40-foot-high containers to create a 178-square-meter living space that can accommodate a family of six. The net-zero energy residence in Boulder, Colorado, is built with containers, reclaimed wood, and steel, featuring two floors and a naturally lit basement, consisting of three bedrooms and four bathrooms.
  • Commercial and Cultural Venues: London's BOXPARK combines 61 containers into a multi-story building structure, with shopping spaces on the lower floors and rest areas on the upper floors. Seoul's "Common Ground" is a market composed of 200 blue containers, a popular spot for young people to visit.
