What are the Types of Prefabricated Beams for Houses

Admin September 18, 2026

The types of prefabricated beams for houses mainly include prestressed concrete beams, non-prestressed concrete beams, steel-concrete composite beams, and other types of beams.

Prestressed concrete beams enhance the load-bearing capacity and crack resistance of the beams by applying prestress in advance. Among them, prestressed hollow-core slab beams have a hollow structure that effectively reduces self-weight while improving load-bearing capacity; prestressed T-beams have a cross-sectional shape similar to the English letter 'T' and are commonly used in bridge construction, adapting well to the stress characteristics of bridges; prestressed box girders have a closed box-shaped cross-section, offering excellent torsional and shear resistance, and are widely used in large-span bridge structures; prestressed I-beams have a cross-sectional shape similar to an I-shape, providing high stiffness and load-bearing capacity to meet the needs of projects with high structural strength requirements.

Non-prestressed concrete beams do not have prestress applied in advance. Ordinary T-beams have a 'T'-shaped cross-section and are suitable for general bridge and building structures, with relatively simple construction; ordinary I-beams have an I-shaped cross-section and are commonly used in situations where large bending moments and shear forces are encountered, such as in some industrial buildings; ordinary rectangular beams have a rectangular cross-section, are structurally simple, and are suitable for general building structures, being relatively common types of beams.

Steel-concrete composite beams combine the advantages of steel and concrete. Steel-concrete composite T-beams are composed of steel beams and concrete slabs, offering both the high strength of steel and the durability of concrete; steel-concrete composite box girders consist of steel box girders and concrete infill layers, providing high load-bearing capacity and durability, and are commonly used in important projects such as large bridges.

Among other types of beams, box girders have a closed box-shaped cross-section and offer good torsional and shear resistance; T-beams and I-beams are suitable for bridge and building structures as well as railway bridges and highway bridges, respectively; rectangular beams and I-beams have distinct structural characteristics and are widely used; thin-walled beams have a relatively thin wall thickness, reducing self-weight and improving load-bearing capacity; truss beams are composed of multiple members forming a truss structure and are suitable for large-span structures; cantilever beams have one end fixed and the other end free, commonly used in the overhanging parts of bridge and building structures. In addition, prefabricated solid beams and prefabricated composite beams are also the main prefabricated components of prefabricated concrete frame structures.
