Turkey Earthquake Container Houses

Admin September 15, 2026

Container houses have been widely used as temporary accommodation and reconstruction transition solutions after the earthquake in Turkey. Here is the specific information:

Source and Donation of Container Houses

The container hotels used by Qatar during the 2022 World Cup have been donated to the earthquake-stricken areas in Turkey. These container houses served as accommodation facilities for fans during the World Cup, equipped with basic living facilities such as bedrooms, bathrooms, mini-fridges, and small dining tables. Qatar plans to donate 10,000 container houses to Turkey, with 5,000 to be placed in Hatay Province and the other 5,000 to be sent to other affected provinces. The first batch of 600 container houses has arrived in Hatay Province, each capable of accommodating 4 to 5 people, and it is expected that 596 families will move in. In addition, China-Poland Shipping Company has transported 1,045 container houses for earthquake relief in Turkey, donated by Qatar and shipped to Turkey via the "Hebet" vessel.

Scale and Function of Container Houses

Kahramanmaras in Turkey has built multiple "container communities" using containers after the earthquake. The large community is constructed from more than 2,500 containers and can accommodate 7,000 people. The community is equipped with schools, banks, supermarkets, laundromats, pharmacies, and other facilities to meet the basic living needs of residents. In addition, the government plans to build 100,000 container houses and transfer about 500,000 disaster victims to places with better living conditions. So far, the government has set up 65,000 containers to accommodate disaster victims and plans to increase the number to 100,000 or even 200,000.

Production and Supply of Container Houses

The "Suzhou Power" from China has also participated in the post-earthquake reconstruction in Turkey. Wujiang Saima Steel Frame Color Plate Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Suzhou Anshiju Integrated Housing Technology Co., Ltd. jointly produced container houses, which are divided into three areas inside and can accommodate a family of three. The entire project amounts to 90 million yuan and is expected to solve accommodation problems for nearly 10,000 people in Turkey. The two companies continue to produce at a rate of 300 sets per day and are expected to complete shipments within a month.

Diversified Applications of Container Houses

Container houses are not only used for accommodation but also have become part of the economic production recovery in the disaster area. The government has established 6,000 temporary trading companies in the disaster area and built a temporary market composed of 3,000 containers to meet basic business activity needs. In addition, containers have been transformed into studios, such as the studio of mosaic artist Serpil Sultanoglu, used for artistic creation and teaching.
