Placement of Portable Toilets in the Trunk

Admin October 11, 2026

There are several common ways to place portable toilets in the trunk:

1. Expanding the Bathroom Using Trunk Space
This solution is suitable for MPV and SUV models. The core principle is to combine the upward-flipping function of the trunk door with the internal space to create a temporary enclosed bathroom. Specifically, open the trunk door as a canopy and use a foldable frame or soft barrier to enclose the other three sides, forming an independent space. The base should be designed according to the height of the squatting toilet and equipped with a portable toilet (such as a portable commode or folding toilet). Its advantage lies in not requiring modification of the vehicle structure, removal of seats, or affecting driving safety, making it a non-destructive modification. However, attention should be paid to matching the space dimensions; for example, if the trunk depth of some models is insufficient, adjustments to the frame structure or selection of a more compact toilet model may be necessary.

2. Using a Portable Toilet with a Mobile Cabin Bedpan
This device features a foldable frame and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material bedpan. Its overall dimensions are 47×29×50CM, expanding to a size of 1.22×0.457 meters, and weighing only 5.5kg (the original text's '550kg' is likely a typo, as portable devices are typically measured in kilograms). Its design features include:

  • Quick setup: The frame can be directly fixed in the trunk after unfolding, forming an independent toilet space with barriers;
  • Multi-scenario applicability: In addition to vehicle use, it can also be used in wilderness campsites, disaster relief scenarios, etc.;
  • Lightweight: HDPE material is corrosion-resistant and easy to clean, and the folded device is compact for easy storage.
    When using, ensure the trunk floor is level and reserve enough space to prevent the device from tipping over.

3. Seres In-Vehicle Commode (Sliding Rail Hidden Type)
This solution hides the commode under the seat using a sliding rail mechanism, unrelated to trunk space, but can be considered as an alternative. The commode body is connected to a fixed rail, and the sliding rail is connected to the vehicle seat. Users can pull it out like a drawer when needed and push it back to hide it when finished. Its advantage is not occupying trunk space, but it requires vehicle support for sliding rail installation and is limited to certain models (such as some Seres models). If trunk space is tight, this hidden design can be prioritized.

Selection Recommendations:

  • To maximize trunk space utilization, recommend Solution 1 or Solution 2, with Solution 2 being more portable;
  • If the vehicle supports sliding rail modification and you wish to keep the trunk tidy, consider Solution 3;
  • When using in practice, pay attention to device fixation, odor control, and privacy protection (such as adding curtains or barriers).
