The Interior of Mobile Toilets in the United States

Admin October 10, 2026

The interior conditions of mobile toilets in the United States vary depending on the type, mainly including features such as structural hazards, special materials, controversies over simple designs, and modular functions.

Some mobile toilets have unique and dangerous structures. For example, some mobile toilets have a narrow and enclosed space beneath them. Taking the Kansas City incident as an example, a man accidentally slipped into the space under the toilet while trying to retrieve a beverage bottle that had fallen into it. The space was extremely narrow, making it impossible for a person to turn around or stand up. Moreover, the heavy base of the toilet made it difficult to push open from the inside, posing a significant safety hazard to users.

In terms of materials, mobile toilets are mostly made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. The properties of this material dictate that when rescuing trapped individuals, a hard-pull approach cannot be used, as it may cause secondary injuries. The correct rescue method is to use cutting tools to break open the outer shell and the base of the toilet to widen the exit and ensure the safe escape of the trapped person.

There has also been a patented design for a "disposable restroom" in the United States, which features a relatively simple interior. It resembles a black plastic bag in appearance and is equipped with sound insulation and tight privacy protection. However, this overly simplistic design has sparked safety controversies, as it may have deficiencies in stability and durability, failing to fully ensure the safety of users.

Additionally, the modular public toilets installed on a trial basis in New York City have relatively advanced interior functions. They are equipped with flashing lights and voice reminder systems. When a user approaches the 10-minute usage limit, the system automatically issues a reminder that time is running out. If the time is exceeded, the door will automatically open. This design helps improve the efficiency of toilet usage and prevents long-term occupation by individuals.
