Trailer Caravan Refitting Portable Toilet

Admin October 11, 2026

There are mainly two solutions for refitting a portable toilet in a trailer caravan: smart biological toilet and crushing direct-discharge toilet.

Smart Biological Toilet Solution

The principle of a smart biological toilet is to use fungi to degrade excrement. During operation, wood shavings such as coconut shells are used as degradation materials. Through electric stirring and heating, the excrement can be degraded within a few minutes. This type of toilet has many advantages. Firstly, it does not produce any odor during the degradation process, greatly improving the air quality inside the caravan and creating a comfortable environment for users. Secondly, the degraded substances can be used as fertilizer, achieving resource reuse and aligning with environmental protection concepts. Moreover, the cycle for replacing the degradation materials is relatively long. Generally, for a single user, the degradation materials need to be replaced every 60 days or so; for two users, it is every 30 to 40 days, reducing the hassle of frequent replacements. However, this solution also has some limitations. The smart biological toilet requires electrical power to drive the electric stirring and heating devices, and its normal operation may be affected in case of insufficient power supply. At the same time, its cost is relatively high, including the purchase cost of the toilet itself and the cost of buying degradation materials.

Crushing Direct-Discharge Toilet Solution

The crushing direct-discharge toilet is equipped with a micro water tank at the back, and the excrement is directly discharged into the gray water tank. When in use, water needs to be stored in the micro water tank for about eight seconds first. This operation can effectively prevent odor from rising and keep the air inside the caravan fresh. After that, when it needs to be cleaned, just find a suitable place, open the valve, and discharge the contents of the micro water tank. There is no need to perform the operation of emptying the toilet as with traditional toilets, making it relatively convenient to use. However, this type of toilet also has some common problems. Whether it is a domestic or imported product, its capacitor is prone to damage. To facilitate maintenance, a maintenance window can be set up in the bathroom so that the capacitor can be replaced in a timely manner when it is damaged, reducing the difficulty and time of maintenance.
